Szabo Folder Pre-Order up on Howes website!

#1

Post by DCDesigns »

Whats up yall, just stumbled onto howes newest preorder, for the szabo folder. Personally, my most anticipated model of the year! I absolutely cannot wait to get my hands on one of those things! (again... I handled it at Blade, and just fell in love)

SO... Here is a link: http://www.howesknifeshop.com/spyderco- ... rder-only/

For those of you who have done a pre-order through howes, I have a question. Usually they get in collectors a little early, and with the last few models, I have grabbed the unwanted collectors as soon as they become available. How soon after the collectors become available does the pre-ordered knife ship? Thanks!

Since it is a production model, I will be waiting a while on this one. But it is one of the 2 that I plan on getting this year. This and the Air...talk about very different knives!

It probably depends on when Spyderco ships the production knives. I do know Jim will get them out as soon as he can.

Less expensive than some of the new releases and considering it's size it's not bad. I'll have to save for this one so I'm glad it's to be a regular run.

I hope the picture at Howe's is dated; it only shows a tip-up, R/L clip positioning. The Mid-Year catalog shows and says 4-way clip.

I'm inclined to believe the catalog, but this does let a little bit of doubt enter my mind.

The pre-order picture at GP Knives shows it as tip up and tip down. I guess really the only one that can tell us is Sal. Considering how many people don't like just tip up only carry and Spyderco knows what it's customers want, I'm guessing it is a 4-way and Howes is just using a early stock photo.

There is pretty little info on this knife on the web. Or perhaps I missed it. Can anyone explain the background of this knife and what it's meant for? Off the cuff I would think that it's a combat folder.

Lack of info on a product doesn't help me reconsider buying one.

Perhaps this will provide some guidance Kardinal

I'm inclined to believe the mid-year catalog supplement that shows a 4-way clip in the pictures and also describes it as such in the text. The picture at GP knives would also support this. It did make me take a second look though.

I'm not completely against tip-up only knives (I'm loving my Junior), but I strongly prefer tip-down for larger folders. The Szabo definitely fits the description of a larger folder. I can't say I'll be one of the first to buy it, but I'm very interested in the Szabo.

Thanks wolf. I spent a good half hour skimming through them pages. I am glad that my infatuation is only with Spyderco knives, otherwise that site would have driven me mad :D

I saw the fixed blade version. I was right in the sense that it is a combat knife. Just wondering how it would fare in combat against the Ulize.

I guess buying the Szabo folder for my use will be overkill. I won't see any real combat and have no knife fighting skills. Thanks though for sharing the link. It helped grasp the basis of the designs created.

I am still thinking about this. Have two questions if Someone can help me please.

1. How is the comp lock enhanced on this knife?

2. What's an advanced self close mechanism?

These were highlighted in the mid year supplement and it has perked up my curiosity a bit. Perhaps it's too early to ask. Does anyone know?

That to me is strange. Why not share the exact info on how the enhancements work. It would already be patented I assume in which case why keep the customer in the dark.

I guess because Spyderco is working on many new designs at one time and they don t see the need to release info prior to the oficial release -all the info we have on the Szabo is from Sal-
