Howdy Ken - a warm welcome to the forum. Not being a lefty, I can only give you a right handed welcome. However, as I have recently aquired the habit of carrying a spydie in my left front pocket as well as the right pocket, I can appreciate to at least some degree the desire for lefty friendly Spydies out there. My left pocket carry is an SE Calypso Jr - which is lefty friendly.

I have managed to train my left hand well enough that I consider myself ambidexterous. I finally got to the point this summer that I can write left handed, my last true task for leftie life.

I find most things are made for the right handed market. Leftie knifes normally have to be custom made(as in my 4" cricket thats being done still, leftie linerlock), unless you like lockbacks. offers a fair sized line that can be used on left side, and a few linerlocks that can be too(ie cricket).

welcome abaord and join the leftie parade... just remember these words...

I'm also a lefty.. The 3 lefty-friendly Spydies that I have (so far) are my FRN Endura and Delica, and my serrated (Massad) Ayoob folders.

I've tried to convince Sal to come-out with a "lefty-friendly" Chinook (set up like the Endura/Delica), but no-luck so far, (and I'm NOT holding my breath 'till there is one!)...

How many lefty spydercos you ask? Easy!
ALL of them! No really. I'm a lefty and have yet
to fine a spyderco I couldn't handle.

As to the clip......I always leave mine on the right side.
Now ask yourself .......why in the heck would you want
a darned ol' clip diggin into yer palm when you use the knife?
Not me that for sure. In a way I feel sorry for righties thinkin'
they got the best deal on the clip .

Besides , I've always considered leftys to be more talented
anyway.

Ok i know some of you will think this is stupid, but i switch the clips on right hand knives over to the other side. I dont like the clip digging in my palm. I also carry a lefty as a back up usually a Delica or a FRN Native. Anyone else do this with the clip on right hand knives? Ron

I have switched the clips for left hand carry on a few of my knives. This allows me to carry two knives, one accessible to each hand.

The combinations I will sometimes carry are a FRN Endura on the right side and a FRN Matriarch on the left, or a FRN Native on the right and a FRN Delica on the left. (Maybe I should try the blue BF G10 Native right and the GlassHartt Engraved Native II, when it arrives, left for a double Native carry )

I have practiced enough that I can open and close any of these lock backs with either hand. I have found that using knives that are similar configurations (i.e. all lock backs) makes it a bit easier to take an ambidexterous approach. Plus I find lockbacks easy to use with my left hand - not so for liner locks.

Another sinister southpaw here, I was worried about linerlocks (my lum chinese folder) but found it fine to use with the left hand. As long as the hole is not totally obscured on the "lefty side" (i.e. Zowada or Toad) I can usually adapt.

Many right-handed folders can be worn in the left front pocket, and drawn and opened with the left ring finger for a reverse grip. Another option I use is a sheath made to hold the knife in the open position, worn on the belt. There are several reputable makers of this type of sheath. I got mine from Survival Sheath Systems.

The ones that really get my goat are those which have different scales on the wrong side and block my left thumb from accessing the Spydie hole. I'd love a lefty friendly Military or Temperance folder. Even better would be lefty versions of righty specific knives. Even better than that would be a sweet new model designed for us lefty's and not made for those dang northpaws at all!!!

I am a leftie who carries a Ayoob on the left and a Police on the right.

Even if I were right handed there would still be a need for me to have a leftie with the clip for carrying left handed.

Think about this, the more experinced person with firearms will carry two firearms.
1. In the event the gun arm is damaged.
2. The primary gun malfunctions.
(of course there are other reasons also)
So not only do I carry two guns, I carry at least two tactical folders. As with guns needing a left and right handed holster so do knifes need proper methods for purchasing the blades.

There are several times I will carry a right side folder on the left, mostly while sleeping. This allows me deploy a right handed folder in a more defensive method.

It would be nice if and other companies would offer optional left carry for standard folders by custom request. I would gladly pay a few dollars for extra holes to be drilled into say a Police model. Who cares if there are holes on both sides, I didn't purchase the folder solely on looks.

The main reason most knives don't have clip hole on both sides
is the cost of another operation to pu them on both sides. That
extra operation means more scrap for the total operations count.
With the market for lefty knives being so small it is not good
business to support the extra scrap rate for so few extra sales.

It's al about money, mate.

Then you must be forgetting about the Endura/Delica and other "low cost" Spidies that are totally "lefty-friendly", with switchable clips? I imagine that those two are among the Spyderco top sellers.

No, I didn't forget that some spyderco's are ....designed...
to have a clip both sided. They are mostly the volumn leaders
in the spyderco lines in a controlled molding process that will limit
the opportunity for scrap. Therefore the risk (cost) is lower.

For the hi end spydies that require a machining operation then
you start getting into scrap territory. And cost.

No matter how a product is made the dollars tell you what sells.
Left hand knives like anything else left handed is a low volumn
sale at best.
