Caly 3 Sprint Interest
Just curious if anyone would be interested in a Sprint of the Caly 3 in G-10 with a different steel. I am personally kicking myself for waiting on the super blue 3.5 Caly. I do however find that the Caly 3 is just right for me size wise, and I am sure there are others who wouldn't mind more super blue goodness.
So what say you? Are you interested in a Caly 3 sprint?

+1 the Damascus is a sprint run, I think the 3.5 will be regular production. The Caly will not have a super steel but will be a SprintJet B wrote:I believe there is one coming down the pipe already. A Caly 3 with a damascus blade and a 3.5 in zdp/CF...
It's in the Sal bombshell thread.
I believe these will be out in June

Only if the "unique steel" was something like Odin's Eye or Hakkapelitta Damasteel, Devin Tomas Banded Ladder Stainless Damascus, or something along those lines. Japanese damascus does nothing for me, nor do non-stainless steels.

I'm not sure if those are real steels or if you are making those up. I may have to stroke the google to verify. In either case, they sound cool just from the names. Who would not want "Odin's Eye"? Count me in.The Deacon wrote:Only if the "unique steel" was something like Odin's Eye or Hakkapelitta Damasteel, Devin Tomas Banded Ladder Stainless Damascus, or something along those lines. Not sure
Theoretically, I will interested Caly3/Caly3.5 with different stainless steel. But I hate laminated blades and Moki cannot work with solid ZDP. I am not a huge fan of H1 for several reasons. Which leaves me with the only choice of VG10, unless Japanese supplier will start to use new steel, equal or better than VG10.

Damasteel USA website (run by Michael Walker), for pics of the Hakkapelitta. Devin Thomas' website, for pictures of his steels.mikerestivo wrote:OK - checked with the google and verified that Odin's Eye and Devin Tomas are real steels. The examples I saw of Odin's Eye were amazing.
The only hits I got on Hakkapalitta were from Finnish websites, and I don't trust the Finns, so I did not click on any of the links.

I voted no.
I love my Caly 3/zdp (carry it every day). The zdp lamination lines don't bother me at all, I know I have a very sharp edge available to me at all times. I have gotten to where I prefer the polished CF over G10 for how I carry this knife (IWB) and I have gotten a little burned out trying to reserve/chase down all the sprint runs and specials lately, have committed quite a lot of $$ towards them :D .
Going to wait until I can at least see a picture of the damascus caly before I decide on that one, for some reason the damascus delica's haven't turned me on even though I would like to some day have something in damascus. I'm not knowledgeable enough about the different kinds of damascus like The Deacon, just know I've seen some pictures of damascus kitchen knives that I thought looked nice.

Thanks Paul. Some really cool patterns out there. I don't have a damascus blade yet. It's about time I look into one.The Deacon wrote:Damasteel USA website (run by Michael Walker), for pics of the Hakkapelitta. Devin Thomas' website, for pictures of his steels.

I was not necessarily thinking damascus here, but there are other Japanese blade steels that could be possibilities- super blue, or some other carbon steel would be fun to play with. And a new color G-10 would be nice. Perhaps a nice deep green, blue or burgundy.

I will be interested in VG10 and dark green or burgundy G10 combination.araneae wrote:And a new color G-10 would be nice. Perhaps a nice deep green, blue or burgundy.
Polished G10 will be even better. Peel Ply G10 on my Caly3.5 just killed my jeans last month.
