My new (old) G-10 Police has arrived!

#1

Post by Jeff/1911 »

Hi Folks,

I've just returned from a three week vacation trip to find my new "old style" plain edge G-10 Police waiting for me. It's one of the early hollow ground versions with no steel liners, and it is fantastic!

This long sought knife was procured through purchase from a fellow forumite, and boy am I ever pleased with it.

When comparing this knife to my later version, flat ground serrated G-10 Police model it is interesting to note the differences in profile and weight, with the linerless old style design slightly lighter and thinner.

It's really fun to have both versions, and they will complement each other very well indeed; just as the flat ground toothy G-10 Police has done so with my plain edge stainless model. Long live the C07 Police, in it's many variations!

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

Kaiser,

Thanks man. I sure am enjoying this knife. It's been in my pocket nonstop since I got it. I really like the appearance of the hollow ground blade mated with the G-10 handle.

I prefer the linerless G-10s also. Great for neck wear because of the weight. Used a linerless Harpy or Civilian for years as EDC 'til Spyderco came out with the Matriarch.

Nice catch, Jeff. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I too just bought a G-10 Police in PE. (Mine is the new style though, complete with the Flat-grind and liner.) Its a great knife, though. I love it!

Have fun,

Mike

I'm interested to hear that others also like the linerless models. This knife certainly seems plenty rigid and strong in design. I plan to keep a close eye on the clip mounting screws to be sure they're kept tight as I've heard that is one area of possible concern, considering they thread into only the G-10.

Spydernut, I also own a new style serrated G-10 Police (as mentioned) and it too is a fabulour knife. I love em' both.

Cheers, Jeff/1911.

Something else I like about my old style, linerless model is that it uses a "blued steel" clip instead of the newer painted black ones like the one on my new style G-10 Police model. I also prefer the three-screws-in-a-line design of this clip to the semi-circular design, purely for aesthetic reasons. The way this clip is positioned causes the knife to sit a bit higher in the pocket as well, at what I think is just the right level. I notice from a picture I have (of another variant) that there was yet another variation to this clip mounting position made available on these first G-10 models, where the clip is positioned ever lower still. Very interesting, these variations I think. I wonder how these subtle changes in design come about.

I wonder if Spyderco sell these 'Blued Steel' clips & screws? which I think are definitely a lot better than these painted black ones.

My first Mini Dyad C39 Micarta (now sadly MIA) had a 'Blued Steel' clip, its replacement came with a Painted black one...!?!?

Good question, Al. Perhaps someone from Spydieland could comment on this.

Great acquisition, Jeff. I also like linerless G10 scales. Not to mention the Police itself... what a knife! What a shape! What a feeling!
