My point was, I don't think they would sell something that encourages you to take the knife apart. I agree, if it doesn't have problems when you get it, you probably won't have any significant ones. For some people putting a knife back together is beyond their ability for whatever reasons.PSquared wrote:I'm not sure how many people see that as an issue (it really isn't an issue for me). If it arrives in good condition and doesn't fall apart in the first week (before any mods) then the chances are good that it isn't going to need the warrantee. Besides, in my case, the shipping cost to the US and back is really prohibitive - only slightly cheaper than a new knife.

A good portion of society drives cars without warranties. Even as mechanically incompetant owners they tend to last a VERY long time due to advances.
Different but not unrelated quality knives should be relatively maintenance-free for at least a decade if not three times that. There is a far better chance the average person will reassemble the knife incorrectly making the action all wonky than make it smoother. Half of those will have it in a baggie for a couple weeks. :)
My opinion is that I can get oil anywhere I can get water and dirt. It might take a bit more work but what else do you do while watching TV?

It's not a tough steel. It is a great edge holding steel. But it isn't great at impacts...so a small knife makes more sense...at least IMO.bchan wrote:Me too. If you have such a tough steel why not use it on a knife that will show its awe to the fullest advantage. To use it on a small knife seems to be a little bit of a waste.
