PE SS Police. Can't remember the steel on it, but the year was 2000.

Tenacious...that was about 30 some Spydies ago.
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.

Mine was the Delica 1 with the original skinny fixed clip incorporated into the handle. It had G-2 steel and I still have it although the condition has seen better days.

Tenacious. Price was low enough to overcome my trepidation about the "weird" look. That was about 40 Spyderco knives ago. :spyder:

Mine was a Tenacious, which I think is one of the more common choices for a first Spydie.

It's till hard to believe the high quality that's available from Sypderco for $30. It's not the greatest steel, but sharpens easily and locks up as solidly as the day it arrived.

I've since added a Native and a Military and I have my eye on a few others.

So many choices...so little money.

First was Calypso Junior Micarta, great knife. I gifted it to a friend and was since able to get a replacement. I've had many after that one, but that one started it all.

That Calypso is still the benchmark I judge my other knives against.

Delica 1 with the Aus8 steel way back maybe 20 years ago. Only got back into knives about 3 years ago. Lots of catching up to do.

My first Spyderco knife?

Postby Papa_K » Fri Jan 13, 2012 1:12 pm

I just ordered a Sage1 (through Amazon).

I narrowed it down to the Native, Cary3, and the Sage1. I may end up with all 3 eventually, in one form or another, but the price on the Sage, with S30V steel and carbon fiber handles, was too good to pass up.

The knives I just mentioned all seem to be in the 3-inch blade category. I'll also look at other sizes in the near future: Para-Military2, Military, and maybe something smaller too - sub-3-inch... the Chaparral maybe?

I've lived in Alaska for the last 20 years. To me, a folding clip knife won't replace a fixed blade or big folding sheath knife. If I don't get side-tracked, I guess I'm looking for one or more knives in the city/office/civilian EDC category, suitable for in-pocket carry without using the clip.

I'm a new Spyderco fan. How'd I end up here? The Sharpmaker. :)

A copilot I bought in the late 80s. Serrated edge. Fine piece of workmanship. Sadly it got damaged doing the spydie flick. Slipped from my hand and landed on the handle corner near the pivot. It's been really tight since then even though nothing obvious is damaged. Just enough to tweak it.

Mine as well. Except it was yellow. I watched the movie cliffhanger and had one about a week after I saw the movie. I was in scouts at the time and that knife got alot of use. My brother is in posetion of it now. Think im gonna call him up and have him ship it my way. Love to put it to use again.
