Spyderco Massad Ayoob

#1

Post by john »

Hi,

I have on order my first Spyderco knife <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'm getting the Massad Ayoob in a plain edge.

What can you tell me about this knife, good or bad?

I used a friends Salsa for a week and really liked how it was built.

Can I expect the Massad Ayoob to be well built also?

Thanks

pahl

Hey Pahl,

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum!<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

My brother owns a serrated version of the Ayoob, and he really likes it. I really like it, as the ergonomics of the handle are just right. The whole thing fits in your hand like it was made for a nice tight grip. (The Almite-coated handles are a nice addition, too.) One nice thing about the Ayoob is its ability to have the clip set up as a left or right-side carry knife. A nice blade to be sure!

Good luck to you!

Pahl,

Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>land.

Afraid I can't speak on the Ayoob, but all the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I have are well made and have worked very well for me. Once you get yours and have tried it a little why don't you come back and tell us what you think of it. Maybe it will help the next <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>/Ayoob fan.

construction is one of the aspects I would worry [edit: LEAST] about in any Spyderco. The almite grip would seem a bit slippery for me in this MBCish model, but for utility it should be a winner. To the owners, how slippery is the handle on the Ayoob? does the canted handle/blade compensate for the almite finish in a solid grip?

I like mine. As a matter of fact, I bought two. I was worried about the "slippiness" of the handles too, but the serrations/canted grip angle keep it in place pretty well. Of course I don't know how well it would hold up to a full strength thrust. Its best features are its light weight and width (ie. its thin and easy to carry for the blade length).

Just got a confirmation saying my Massad Ayoob was mailed out today <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Can't wait to get it.
I was told to that is was a numbered in the 600's and some collectors like numbered knives that are numbered under 1000.
I bought it to use, not collect but I thought that was interesting that it was numbered.

Does spyderco number alot of there knives?

Thanks for all the above replys.
