Hi people,
I've noticed thru reading the forum that i'm not the only one to receive a 204MF with bent stones. Just wondering how many out there have the same 'problem' but still use them without replacing them under warrenty?
I'm just wondering if you can still get results from the curved stones. I live in Aust, which makes it hard for me to send to the States to be replaced.
Also, one of my medium grit stones have a really rough feel to it on one side.. should i be concerned about this? I haven't tried rubbing the stones together yet, because i want some advice first, in case i need to send them back. at least they wont think that they have been used already.
any feedback will be appreciated.

G'day Impyboy,
My 204 is good, except some rough feel on one of the fine grits. Rubbing together the stones solved the problem (but do it lightly).
For the bent stones, I suggest don't do anything to it. I'm sure you can get help from the dealer you got it from in Australia. Normally, Spyderco dealer has to honour the warranty. If you face problem, just email Spyderco USA, they do listen to us ELUs.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

thanks for the replies.
I know that not using the rough edge is a workaround, but i'd rather have a fully functional sharpener ie. use all sides, which is what it was designed for.
I know spyderco will honour their warrenty, it's really a matter if the dealer will be willing to send it back to the distributer.
I will take it back and see what they can offer me.
I'm actually suprised that the spyderco QA let so many bendy stones out to the public. got a feeling Aust got the rejects coz we're so far away. hmmmmm...

The "roughness" is usually caused by dust settling on the stone during the firing process. The dust can ususally be removed by lightly rubbing the two stones together (as suggested).
A slight camber in the stones should not affect the performance of the stone. We can replace it if you are not pleased, but I would go through the Australian Distributor. Michael at Zen is good to work with.

Hi Sal,
thanks for the info about the dust and the rubbing trick. i'll do that with my replacement set if i have the same issue.
I had to return the sharpener coz the stone was bowed significantly. It was the first thing i checked when i first got it, and it was very noticible. we'll see how it goes.
