25th Anniversary Delica
25th Anniversary Delica
I know most of you agree with me, the 25th anniversary Delica is beautiful. I noticed Joyce has changed the price to 529.95. The price appears high for a production knife. I have a custom made knife with red CF scales and damascus bolsters and blade for about the same price. I wonder how many will be made and who is willing to buy one. I will under my collectors number. What is your opinion. RR

Rico,
I'm in under the collector's number also. I have bought Prinsloos, Parrishes, and Kalfayans so yes the price is steep but not the most I've spent on a blade. Closest limited production blade in that range was the Darrell Ralph damascus Osprey from Delta Z, still over $100 less. Again "Ouch".

ummm, very steep! <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> but if you are a true <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>nut, that'll not deter you from owning one.. Besides, its a homage to Spyderco for their 25 years in existance.. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> thread very carefully, make a decision that'll not hurt your finances, that way, it'll be a purchase without a conscience.. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I presume the pricing decision was made on the assumption that there are at least 250 folks on the planet that "have to have one" at any price.
If you can get one through a distributor/dealer connection, which might not be that easy, I imagine they will probably run anywhere from about $380 - $450. Still very very steep for a CNC ground pattern knife with a fingernail-size piece of damascus steel.
I recently bought a large Elishewitz King at full dealer price for $500. I couldn't mentally justify dropping almost that much for the Anni Delica.
All of the pricey Spyderco "collector" grade stuff - the C27 Horn and the C22 Walker - are going on the secondary market for less than half of original MSRP,and that MSRP is a very old one. All of the truly costly collector items are typically those for which there were short runs (unintentionally short).

Sorry if the price seems high. We have to put some kind of MSRP on the model. I imagine most will sell for less.
We're only making 500 pieces. The mosaic "bug/web" damascus is unique and shouldn't be compared with "ordinary" damascus which is more than likely a "production damascus" purchased by custom makers.
Considering the fact that 200 are earmarked for collectors, about 50 will be held back for "VIPs", employees of Spyderco will certainly want a few, which leaves the rest for the world.
Spyderco usually offers excellent value for the dollar, I think you will find the Anniv. piece to be the same.
