Polished Stainless Salt I Clip?

#1

Post by WalzAaronFFG »

Hey guys, I just bought a lightly used Salt I with black volcano grip. Love the knife, but the I'm not a fan of the painted clips. Does Spyderco make an all stainless clip and screw that would work on the Salt I?

If I can't order a new one i'll just dump it in some paint thinner and brush it with a scotch-brite for the brushed look, but I would prefer to just order a new one since this one has some wear.

Any info you have would be helpful,

Thanks guys

Aaron

Yes just call and ask for an ss native clip.
We would rather be the knife in your pocket, because is "works" better, than the knife in your showcase, because it "looks" better.

Thanks, will do.

THIS ONE http://www.cutleryshoppe.com/rescue-79mmblack.aspx looks like it may work as well. Anyone see any reason why it wouldn't?

Be aware though, the clip currently on the Salt is titanium to aide in the rust resistance factor of the knife. If you plan on using the knife near salt water, know that the new stainless steel clip WILL rust.

Exactly. Stripping the existing clip and barrel bolt would probably be the best option.

just know that if you strip the factory clip, its not going to be shiny. The Ti has a very dull look. It will take some polishing to make it look like the SS clips.

Or strip it and hit it with a propane torch and make it some fun colors.

Forgot to say, I stripped, heated on my stove top, sanded, and polished this one - the color is light this way, which I like...

That is if the clip is Ti.The early salts came with SS clips.

Coincidentally, I just swapped clips on Thurs, because I though the Silver clip would looked better on Yellow. I don't see salt water so I'm not worried about rust. I imagine the clip steel is much more rust proof than VG10 or other typical stainless steels that I don't have rust issues with.
