Japanese style ethnic series?

Could spyderco be making a japanese style folder anytime soon? Maybe with a g10 handle with katana pattern?

Not a bad idea. I would love to see a stingray inlay in the handle though. BTW, Lum Tanto's blade shape reminds me of a Japanese sword's blade.

you are totally right. Stingray looks really legit. maybe a SS handle then or something... not a tanto shape but a curved katana-like shape

Imagine what a Spyderco higonokami might look like! Could be a cool use for Aogami Super Blue :)

Like a folding combination of a Kumo and Lum Tanto?

kinda like a mix between the mcusta katana folder and what spyderco is all about. that style of katana design but with ergos and true spyderco-style tribute to what the katana is all about - not just a pattern

the only thing we need is a lock now... liner lock would be ok... but i think a well-designed midlock or even backlock with no detent would be ideal... or an uncaged bbl... something ambidextrous

Hmmm... Spyder-tanto ? I like the idea.

Putting a Spyderhole on japanese-style knives might be quite a challenge, though : to keep the lines as straight as possible, you don't want any hump on the blade, which means a rather large cut-out on the handle.
Even so, the thumb hole would probably be partially obscured when the knife is closed (a bit like the Native).

But I'm sure the Spyderco designers are up to the task.

Oh man a "Spydernokami" would be over the top! I know making the molds would be SUPER expensive (aka won't happen) but a Stingray-textured FRN would be soo flippin' cool! I guess something more realistic would be some sort of milled out part in the scale with a little stingray inlay.

Nice designs Juggler! I love the more traditional Japanese Tanto!

Nice looking knife, however you did pretty much suceed in making a twin of the Emerson Roadhouse...

Not really looking like an emerson roadhouse. Guess my eyes must be off. I say keep the knife as traditional as posssible with upgraded steel. Maybe super blue and a spydie hole.

I'd like to see the traditional Japanese Higonokami updated with a lock. Perhaps use Super blue for the blade? No matter what blade style it ends up being, I'd love to see a forged finish on the non-ground portion, but that'll probably not happen.

I was trying to figure out a way to do G10 diamonds like on the smallfly in a japanese pattern with CAD a few weeks ago. I agree, this is a nice idea.

If memory serves Dialex had some designs with blades that were Japanese style/influenced. Of course, he's got designs for pretty much anything with a Spyderhole. :)

Not sure if you came up with a solution, but you could have it so the white diamonds are nested in the black G10 like with steel liners and have the white raised up and the black have holes so it would be a flush fit.
