M390 CF Military

#1

Post by MCM »

Just talked to Roger, limit on the CF M390 Military is going to be (2) per person. Price $219.95.
If you can't wait for the pre-order on his site, send an
e-mail to help@knifeworks.com with "CF M390 Military" as the subject.
Then include how many you would like with your contact info.

Hope this helps!

How long will it take for the pre-oder to be on the site? What do I have to put in the contact info?

Just email the address that MCM gave. They will email you back and tell you that they will notify you as soon as it's listed on the site (as of now estimated Sept). Once it's on the site, you need to enter pretty much all your info b/c it requires a $20 deposit.

Interestingly, the email response from KnifeWorks says, "This will be one of the first Spyderco Military out with the popular M390 Steel." (Emphasis added). To me, this suggests that other M390 Military sprints runs are a very strong probability.

Does that seem a little pricey? The Para II in S90V and Carpenter were less than $150, right. M390 sounds goo enough, but it's coming in at a bit of a premium. I'm probably going to pass on that one. Don't really need it and there are going to better models & steels that I can put the extra $70-80 premium into.

The Carpenter vers was around $140 or so.

The CF S90V was higher than that, around $190 if I remember right.

Yup, which puts this one right where you'd expect a CF/premium steel Military to be.

You are probably right. I'm not a big Mili guy, so it just seemed a little high for me. Then again I have no draw to the Mili right now. If it was CF/S90V (a Sprint already produced) I'd go for it. But the M390 steel doesn't get me too excited. Maybe if they do a Carpenter steel (S90V equivalent) I'd go for one.

It is veery expensive - I remember benchmade 710 M390 was cheaper (150 $) . And the axis is more reliable than the liner lock .

$220 doesn't sound cheap, but correct me if I am wrong. Didn't 710 has G10 handle (if yes, please add $40-50 to base price)? M390 710 was released in 2010, Mily will be in 2012, inflation. So $220 is not cheap, but considering everything above, sound fare for me.

I wouldn't go that far. A properly made liner lock is very good, and Spyderco knows how to make them. Reliability can mean different things. Liner lock is easy to clean, has less moving parts, and no springs to wear out.

Comp lock is better than both :) .

Also, for CF and a high end foreign steel, I think price isn't too bad. ZT 0551 is 200 and 0561 is 260 and they are using Elmax which is a step below M390 in cost I think and no CF. Granted there are other things that more than justify the cost of those knives, just sayin it's not like you can go get something with equal materials anywhere else for less.
