C05 Standard

Just picked up a C05GS standard. I am unfamiliar with the history of this knife, it doesn't appear in any literature. Can someone fill me in on this?

Hey wingville :

The "standard" came along after the "worker"
C01 and before the "Police" & "harpy" models
& I believe was supposed to be something like
the way a Buck 110 is "standard" in their line. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> It was originally offered in SS but I believe you have a G-10 version? I was looking at one on www.bestknives.com site.
A good choice. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Thanks. Yes, it's a G10. I have a Terzoula Jr from 94 that's my favorite and was looking for another G10. This fit and finish on this isn't as nice as the terzpoula, but I like the size and heft.

Nice score wingville. The Standard was one of my first knife purchases (I bought it together with a Delica). Now you need to find a G-10 Harpy (a hawkbill that is about the same size and is similarly constructed as the Standard) to complete the brother/sister set.

The "Standard" was Spyderco's first attempt to product a lower cost model, so that knock-off competitors would not eat away as much of their sales. The used AUS-6 steel instead of G-1, and the punched clip instead of the screw-on clip.

The old Standard was discontinued soon after the Delica and Endura came on board in FRN, which was the next attempt by Spyderco to produce a low-cost knife (and very sucessfully so).

The Standard was re-introduced with G-10 scales and is quite a little bundle, but along with the Rookie, was discontinued again in 2000.

I like the Standard very much. And the Worker too, it's the Adam and Eve of the great <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> family <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
