Looks a lot like Carpenter Micro-Melt® M62 Alloy.

Thanx Brian.

I think that Strider made the custom pieces to test. They're usually pushing the envelope.

I'm sure we can make somethng, but there are a few obstacles; Crucible's rep doesn't think it would make a good blade steel (I'll try to get a sample) and last I heard it was $60 /lb. 3-4 times PM blade steels.

Based on a quick read of the descriptions (not ingredients) would this be akin to a domestic version of ZDP-189?

I guess the, "gotta test it first" response is fitting but just curious.

Is this a trick question? ;)

Of course I'm interested. :D

Didn't they say that about M4 too? There seem to be a lot of opinions flying around, but so far Mastiff is the only one with any actual experience, and to be honest I've never been impressed by the heat treat on a strider anyway. *shrug* What I'm getting at is they may be right, but how often do you hear "you can't" or "it won't work" or "its stupid?" Some of the time the naysayers are right, but some of the time you come up with something surprisingly good. *shrug* Honestly I'd be satisfied hearing Sal test a few different HTs and tell us whether its worth a shot or not before clambering for a sprint of it.

If it's $60 a pound and they say it's not good for a blade steel then I dunno, I have heard it rusts very badly and easy.

Kinda like Rex 121 in away as far as the rust issues go and cost.

Sounds like one of those way past diminishing returns steels.
