"Borrowed" Spydies

#1

Post by SpyderNut »

A friend that I hadn't seen in 7 months stopped by the other day to visit me. We had a great time catching up on all the news and such about jobs, etc. Before he left, I gave him a DVD of "Bad Boys". He then tried to open it with a fingernail, and thats when I whipped out my Ladybug and offered it to him. We then went out to lunch, and I TOTALLY forgot to ask for my knife back. It was only untill he left that I realized that my Spydie was also gone. Its no big deal, but I was just wondering if a situation like this has happened to any of you?

Anyway, I'm on my way to New Grahm.com to get me a new Ladybug.

'Nut,

You need to put your new one on one of those retractible key, or ID tag, holders. That way, if someone tries to walk off with it, you will go with them.

Linda,

Good tip! Since I don't lend out my knives much, except to "El Hombre" (who knows how angry I get whenever he does not return something), I haven't had this experience. However, SpyderNut, I hope your friend enjoys it.

Kahz,

Yours does that too, huh? It must be that male chromosome.

Jumping in with both feet - after donning a pair of Nomex boxers The one person I would NEVER lend a to is my wife. Just take a look at the dinner knives in the drawer with the tips bent from prying the lids off paint cans, etc. and you'll understand why.

(OK - maybe the Ti Lum Tanto Folder could take it - but I ain't risking it)

Hee hee hee!

Linda,
Yeah, that retractable string-thingie sounds like a great idea! I might even upgrade it to a bungee cord so that I come flyin' at them when they try to walk off with my .

Kahz,
Oh, I think he'll enjoy it alright. That little baby has "been there, cut that" for me since I got it last October. I might even let him keep it.

4 s ter,
Aye man, I know the feeling! I have seen way too many of my mother's kitchen knives busted from some "prying" methods employed by some of my family members. (Yeah, that includes me.....)

Patogodo,
I wish I were in your place!

After scaring the daylights out of some friends with insanely sharp knives, people have stopped asking to see mine!

4ster, I understand and feel your pain. My family takes blades seriously, but, thanks to T-Bones and turkeys, the carving knife still has to be nearly unbreakable, either by luck or fate. The spine on my grandmother's is easily an eighth inch!

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

my friends have all been kissed by a ... and now 2 of them own ladybugs, both blue even!

out of 5 that have used my s, 4 are converted.... 2 ladybugs, 1 delica, 1 toad...

they were afraid to handle them for a while though.

<img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf> We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare... <img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf>

Glasshartt had a good idea, SpyderNut, about putting your on a retractable keychain, ID tag, etc.. Just for some added security though, why don't you attach it to something that won't be easy to walk away with....like an old tire rim.
LOL!

KBR,

Or, how about a huge wrench or broom handle, like they do with the restroom keys at gas stations.

I would simply hinder a like I hinder a spare set of keys, with a 4" plastic putty/spreader knife attached to the lanyard hole! Large, conspicuous, and nearly impossible to pocket.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

What would be interesting is if your friend happens to return it, they have to realize were it came from and figure you are going to miss it.

If you don't get it back back think of it as your sacrifice to help convert people to the wonders (and daily usefulness) of Spydercos. Hope you get it back though.

When I can though I've gotten into the habit of buying several small knives (Ladybugs I & II, Coldsteel Mini-pals, etc.), when the price is right, and just giving them to people that always seem to ask to borrow a knife. It makes you feel good when you see that person using the knife later on instead of borrowing one. Kind of like being a wondering Spyderco monk.

Hey SpyderNut :

Just think, your friend will now contract
the virus!

I did the same three days ago when I traveled back to Spain. One of my friends told me that she had to carry a low quality balisong because she could not find any folder that could be open with one hand. She showed me her balisong, and it was the worst knife I've ever seen. The blade was so brittle that it looks like aluminum, and the handle was made of some low quality chromed metal. I pitied her, and I had to give her the blue PE Salsa I was carrying. The problem was that her boyfriend, Pablo, also a good friend of mine, was using a similar balisong, and you have to see his face when he saw the Spydy. I had to give him my 50/50 inlaid Vesuvius. It is good to spread the Spydervirus, but it is getting expensive. Perhaps I should pack more Spydercos when traveling home¡
