(Pics) DIY Ladybug Sheath!

#1

Post by mark greenman »

I whipped this guy up in like 5 minutes the other day, and I'm really pleased with how well it worked out. I think you guys will enjoy.

The basic materials were pink diswhasher glove from my girlfriends sink, and the gorilla tape in my bag.

I wrapped some of the glove material around the top half of the knife, so that it held it firmly, then I taped the glove in place.

Image

From there, I just coated the exterior in a piece of Duct tape, and cut off the excess. Voila! A form fitting sheath. Then I hooked it to my keys with a small safety pin.

The rubber provides great traction, without making any noise when the knife is drawn.

I carry it in hand, with the keys forward and the lanyard around my pinkie. If I want to pre-deploy the knife, I just slip the keys in my pocket, and the knife stays in hand.

Image

It also lends itself to hideout carry, say clipped to a undershirt beneath a button up shirt.

So, in 5 minutes, you can make your own ladybug hawkbill sheath. :D

I'm assuming it holds the knife pretty good if it is on your keys?

The sheath holds the knife securely as I wanted- it can suport the weight of the keys, and it will not come out accidentely in the pocket. But I purposefully built it to hold on in a way that I could easily remove it from the sheath one handed while in my pocket. I didn't want it to be too secure, so its not "jump rated" like it could have been.

Its a DIY keychain ductape roll- a DIY review I will be posting soon.

It allows me to carry about 18" of Gorilla tape with me in a package the size for a tube of chapstick.

I used my keychain knife and keychain duct tape to build my keychain sheath :D

Pretty wild DIY :D
How's the heat/pocket-lint / moisture(the sheath being long times in your pocket) affect the tape's adhesive?

Next, go get some Kydex, and make another, it's fun!
