Woodcrafters CPM S30V Mule?
Woodcrafters CPM S30V Mule?
I see a Mule CPM S30V being sold by Woodcrafters. Does anyone have any info about these? has anyone built one? Is it the same as all the other Mules but with CPM S30V? This will be my first try at building from a blank. So i dont want to start off with something too expensive i also dont want to sink a bunch of time into somthing cheap. I would like to have a nice user backpacking/woodcrat knife to use when i am done. It looks like i will be using the Mule or a Enzo Trapper blank.
Search the forums for examples of finished Woodcraft Mules. Different design from the Mule Team project.rc51kid wrote:I see a Mule CPM S30V being sold by Woodcrafters. Our reason is quite satisfied, in 999 cases out of every 1000 of us, if we can find a few arguments that will do to recite in case our credulity is criticized by someone else. Our faith is faith in someone else's faith, and in the greatest matters this is most the case.

I have one - and it is a different pattern than the Spyderco Mule Team series. It is a nice drop-point hunter configuration. When I first got it, I wrapped it with paracord and began using for an outdoor knife. I just recently received a slab of maroon micarta and am planning to put some proper scales on it.
To be honest, I much prefer the shape of the Mule Team blades. But I'm going to finish out the Woodcraft blade and give it to my youngest son, when he graduates from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts in a few months.
I'll post pictures of the WIP as I go. I'm far from being an expert at this - but I have a great deal of fun at it!

The biggest difference from the regular Mule is that the Woodcraft has a choil built in. That is why I bought it. I like the design better than the regular Mule (my opinion only).
The other differences that I noted are 1) Woodcraft is not FFG (I prefer FFG) and 2) the blade is a bit shorter than the regular Mule.
All in all, Im willing to live with hollow grind for the ergos of the choil. And of course, I can always have someone grind to FFG if I want.

Waited what seems like over a year until I pulled the trigger today..........
Have been checking that site every few weeks for what seems like forever.
Picked up (2) today to cut down on the shipping.
Looks like a slick little blade.
Also prefer the choil........ :D

It's a good blade, arguably more suited to general outdoorsy tasks than the standard Mule.
It is a little misleading to call it a "mule" as it bears no real resemblance to the mule project knives other than being sold as a blank. I think it's good value.

What a neat little knife!
Fits my giant hands like a glove!
Now to rummage through my wood & find suitable scales!
Might even have some Stag or Bone big enough for this one.
Might have to order more while there still available.
Actually prefer this to the std. Mule & have about all of 'em.
This just seems like the ultimate handy knife to have around.
Will post pic's with scales, but its in the long line of projects......... :o

Finished it this morning.
Took it down a bit & gave it a slight palm swell.
Went to get a couple pic's & the batts in the camera died.. :p
Only got the one.....
One more thing, they just lowered the price to $54 from $59......
In case your on the fence.......

I always use Devcon clear (2) part 5 minute epoxy.
Used it on wood, bone, horn, CF, with great results.
On this one I used alum tubing and 3/16" alum bar stock from the hardware store. (True Value) total cost $.57 & $1.19 for 1ft sections.
My 1st time using alum, and am sold on it. Its cheap, easy to work with
& looks nice. If it gets scratched up, I can just sand the scratch's out.
IMO the pins are just for looks as the Epoxy is forever.
Am sure, actual knife makers have better methods, but this has always worked for me.
