With Spyderco, I'm not surprised.

Always getting better, if that's possible.

I actually like the Native because it's such a thick FRN handle without liners and it has a decently thick blade, which keeps it from being flimsy feeling. Mine has zero blade play after years of use. I've been thinking about getting a plain edge version lately. My favorite thing about the Native is the near 50/50 blade to handle ratio..i don't like when a knife has a bunch of handle that's wasted (as in, isn't filled with blade).

Yes, I agree. With my favorite being the carbon fiber version.

The Native is one Spyderco I haven't been able to get excited about. Had a gen 1 years ago and quickly sold it. Recently got a gen 3 in trade and realized I'm still not a fan. The handle design just doesn't fit me. For some reason I'm still tempted to try out gen 5g though. What's my problem?

the FRN native is a good knife but it's not my cup of tea. IMO the knife is too blade heavy and it's smaller than i like.

Try as I may, I just can't get into the Native. Just doesn't work for me. That said, I'm really looking forward to the Native5, and can't wait for it to hit the SFO shelves.

Hi,
To Me, I think the Native is a high value knife, S30V, for a steal,as far as I am concerned.
I really like the blade shape, with the pronounced swedge cut. It's a classic, and very much a
Spyderco. I don't think you will regret buying it.
Enjoy,
Charlie

Native II Is the best so far, can't wait for the 5th Gen with aluminum handles.

I was about to get a LW Native but after handling one in person I have to say I'm a bit disappointed and changed my mind about purchasing one. It feels kinda cheap when opening the knife and has this gritty, scraping feeling to it. The Delica feels like the better knife. Again this is just based purely on how the Native feels when opening/closing the blade. I think overall build quality is pretty solid for a linerless, pinned construction knife. I'll just wait till the almighty Native 5 is released.

Has an aluminum variant been discussed or announced? I thought the Native V was coming out in G-10 to be followed by FRN?

I think the feel of the Native in its current incarnation suffers against something like the Delica 4 because of the difference in technologies used for each. The D4 has steel liners, PB washers, latest manufacturing standards. It puts the Native at an immediate disadvantage since most (I know I do) like the feel of knives today with the tighter tolerances and improved materials.

I loved my Native 3 - it just felt great in the hand. Excited about the upcoming 5 and looking forward to the G10 and Fluted Ti versions.

I do! I currently have 10 Natives, including my EDC which is a blue G-10 BladeForums Native PE. I'm sure the number of Natives in my collection will continue to grow.
