I usually use the 3" variety in blades, but:
Have carried these lately and it's a nice change. The longer blade helps in some cases, of course the blades are the thinner, lighter type. So far it's been the Stretch, Large Lum Chinese, Anso Lobster.
Now, what other VG10 blades are out there, that are 3 1/2" to 3 3/4", and light in weight?

Among current models, the Endura is the only one that comes to mind, but the R2 would be an older one.

The Barong. I suppose it is light in weight, at least I think so. It certainly weighs less than say, a Chinook.

These two are awesome. As mentioned before, very beefy(4mm blade thickness), compression lock, and forget they're in your pocket weight.

Superleath is an awesome knife. Everything seems to me like the best compromise to me :
- Perfect handle shape
- Perfect blade shape
- Blade solid as a rock
- Solid lock
- Nice f&f + perfect mecanic
- VG10, easy to sharpen and very good performance
If you want a little lighter, a little longer and more slicing capabilities, the chokwe is amazing. But the tip of the blade is really thin.
I consider the superleath as my workhorse knife and the chokwe as a very nice edc / food cutting knife.
These are the two I bought to start a new spydies collection (I sold everything 3 years ago for my studies, but now... I'm back).

I mostly carry Persian and Caly3.5. Both have 3.5" blade. Persian probably will not be qualified as lightweight, but Caly3.5 is certainly on of the lightest in 3.5" blade category.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

I would support this proposal. I owned two with fully serrated blades but finally decided that PE is the best for me. Slim, light and very nice lookingChris_H wrote:If you're willing to hunt for it, I'd recommend the large Calypso (C54). It is a beautiful knife with a large VG-10 blade and smooth black micarta handle.
I'd love a sprint run of the large Caly too. It would be [relatively] astronomical in price, but a ZDP-189 blade with CF scales to match the Caly 3, would be pretty impressive.VashHash wrote:I wish they would bring the original caly back. It was made and discoed before I truly discovered spyderco
The JD SMith is certainly no slouch. THe original was very nice, but the sprint run didn't really give up much even dressed in more "tactical" materials.gull wing wrote:Hey, I like the looks of JD Smith.
