I paid 179 but ya sorry guys no camera :/ but it is a very interesting knife I noticed that it only has one washer and on the other side of the pivot is the gear that
makes the ratcheting sound, fit and finish are excellent like always and the edge comes suprisingly thin. It looks like it will be quite the slicer!

In the pics leading up to today I was not too excited about this one. However, I was in the SFO today and saw it there. Wow! It feels nice in had, and the ratcheting mechanism is just way cool. Subtle but noticeable. Fit and finish were as to be expected from their Taiwan knives (awesome). After seeing it I will say this: at 12:30 today as I walked into the SFO I wasn't too excited about it, , , at 1:00 I was waling out of the SFO calling my wife trying to convince her I needed one.

Love this knife!! It's my first with CF scales, and I really like the twill texture much better than the smooth ones I've handled. The F&F is the best among the knives I own, with extremely tight tolerances. I find the shape and grind of the blade fascinating - to me, it makes the knife look larger than it is.
The ratcheting mechanism is also very cool - as SQSAR said, it's subtle. I do notice that it makes opening the blade a little "jerky". It closes much more smoothly than it opens, especially when moving it slowly. I handled a couple of them in the showroom, and they were all the same. I'm hoping that it will get better with time and use.
The one thing I'm not crazy about is the lock release - it's nearly flush with the handle, which makes releasing the lock somewhat difficult, similar to what I've read about the Gayle Bradley. I'm getting used to it, but it takes much more attention than my other liner lock blades.
Overall, I think it's a winner - I can overlook the minor shortcomings because this won't be a heavy user for me, and my cutting needs are on the light side to begin with.

Partial backspacer down about 3/4 of the handleThe Mentaculous wrote:Nice, thanks for the pics! This is a very interesting design, especially with the novelty of the "carraca" mechanism. I will probably pick one up eventually...right now, I am waiting for the Chaparral.
BTW, is it open construction, or does it have a backspacer?
