Ink stain on G10

#1

Post by Iris223 »

Hey ya'll,

I accidentally got some pen ink on my G-10 UKPK, and I was wondering if there is some trick to getting it off. I've tried warm water and rubbing it down, but it doesnt seem to work. Anyone have any suggestions as to how to remove it? I'm assuming mild soap and water is probably the next step. Any precautions I should take in doing so?

Thanks!

acetone? I dont THINK it would hurt/discolor G10.

edit: FYI nailpolish remover usually has acetone.

:spyder: dunno 'bout acetone but alcohol is certianly safe. G-10's some pretty indestructible stuff. :spyder:

Is G-10 pourus? Would ink soak in so it would still be visible even after heavy sanding? I'm not recommending sanding, just wondering if the ink soaked in or is just on the surface.

Rubbing alcohol will probably do it.

Try soapy warm water and a tooth brush. That works for me when the G10 picks up the pigment of my jeans.

If soap and water does not work, WD-40 might be worth a try.

Hope it wasn't Noodler's Bulletproof ink...

I know some people use gasoline, too, but not sure why.

Hey everyone, sorry for replying so late, been a busy week!

I tried water and soap and a toothbrush, to no avail, it must have been really deep in there.

I tried soaking in Break-Free CLP, and scrubbing off, no avail.

Then I tried alcohol and a cotton ball, and then it slowly, but surely came off. Must have been really deep or something. Or maybe the residue of the CLP broke it down or something.

Either way, I really appreciate it, thanks everyone for your help and suggestions :)

I would try some "Opps!" It's great for getting paint and ink off. It will even remove Sharpe marker from plastic. You might want to test it on a small area, it can soften some plastics until it drys back out. WD-40 afterward will make any lightened areas look good again.

Folks - the absolute best stuff for removing ink is a specialized product called Amodex, manufactured in Connecticut by Amodex Products. (http://www.amodexink.com/stain-removal.html)

My family works in the printing business and I've been literally up to my elbows in ink. This stuff is the real deal.
