Amsterdam Meet 2011 Report
Thank you for posting all these great pics -- this is my yearly favorite thread.
I am also drawn to the squeak -- would be a nice second knife to carry for the office - the fluted ti is making me crazy -- to me it has a reto art deco feel to it for some reason. I *must* have that native and the upcoming milli.
I wish we could see more pics of the tuf proto...

I remember reading something about an improvement on the backlock, any news on that?

Spyderco 2011 Prototype – Ayoob Sprint
The Ayoob Sprint should be coming out this year. Personally, I think it’s a no-brainer that this design came out in nice and grippy G10. I never quite liked the smooth Almite scales on this model. The knife points superbly, the tip goes where your thumb goes.

Spyderco 2011 Prototype – Lum Tanto Sprint
After all those Lum Chinese folders, it is probably high time for the tanto to see a sprint run. The G10 has a rougher pattern than the usual foliage green G10 handles. I’m not sure if that was just for the prototype or whether this pattern will be used for production. The tanto tip is something to behold, many different facts. Tough to shoot, I feel lucky I got that shot of the tip. How about making a sprint run of the fixed blade Lum Tanto Sal? Perhaps with a red G10 handle? That one is definitely missing in my collection.
Wow, that Lum Tanto just moved to the top of my want list!
I am usually not a tanto person but that "soft" looking tanto really looks good. Oh and dont forget the lovely green g-10
Thanks for the photos.

Spyderco 2011 Prototype – Szabo Folder
Apparently Laci Szabo is a ‘big guy’ and this knife fits the man; it’s big. The blade length is around 4,5 inches and it used a compression lock to hold the blade open. The Spydercrew did some extensive lock testing so the lock matches Laci’s style of MBC. This involves a reverse grip with the edge out and plenty of trapping and cutting. A separate mechanism is used to hold the blade closed. I tried depressing the compression locking tab while the blade was closed, and indeed, the blade stayed put. The blade doesn’t come out until you want it too. I have no need for an MBC folder for carry or in my collection, but I’m positive this will appeal to many others. Plus, Laci’s logo is way cool.

Spyderco 2011 Prototype – Military Titanium Fluted
I love this version of the Military! The previous titanium Military is a cool blade, but it’s heavier than the regular ol’ G10 version. To me, the Military is that wonderful big knife that’s surprisingly thin and light. This fluted titanium brings the Ti Millie back to where it belongs; lightweight high performance. The grip is great, no hotspots – just a good grip. On a sidenote, I understand that the bluing is done by hand on each individual model. This one is a must have! But, thinking ahead, how about a fluted titanium Paramilitary 2? That one would see even more pocket time.

The Ayoob is very nice looking, I will have to consider it. I will cringe when I see a ghetto wave put on that Szabo.
The grind on the Lum Tanto looks nicer this time. The G-10 texture matches the texture on my DPx/Lionsteel folder, which I had never seen before I opened the box and I'm pretty happy with it.
Did the fluted models feel as rounded as they look in the pictures?

Wow.. H1 Dragonfly, Chaparrel, and Lum Tanto are no brainers. Even that Byrd Slip-it appeals to me. Poor mans UKPK? Wonder how it will compare to the FRN UKPK cost-wise.
I seriously hope the SFO will offer replacement springs for my FRN UKPK Gin-1 because I certainly have noticed the tension is nowhere near as strong as my G10 UKPK and 2 Urbans.
**** spyderco addiction. I wish there was a loyalty program - for every 10 knives purchased you would get a spyderpack or something. I've run out of places to put them all.
