It has finally arrived! MoonGlow Manix 2 Picture thread

Post by DemskeetSkeet »

I figured since we had a CS Manix 2 thread, we might as well have a MoonGlow picture thread as well!

Here's my short video on the glowing aspect of this knife. I caught on camera the very first time I charged it and I was blown away!

I'd love to know what the heck they're using for the GITD scales. Those are flat-out amazing. Next, we gotta get some runtime figures posted. ;)

I posted a youtube video on it. Not sure if it's fully uploaded yet though.

The first time I charged it was on camera and you can tell by my reation how bright this thing glows.

The paper tells about the GITD material a bit:
Here's what the paper reads that comes with the knife:

Dear Spyderco Customer,

E.D.C. Forums is an online conclave for the discussion and sale of tools we carry everyday. Forum participants have a deep appreciation for high-quality tools that fit and carry in a pocket and are used daily such as flashlights, pens, and pocketknives.

E.D.C. contacted Spyderco about manufacturing an exclusive version of the Manix2 folder with a new handle material they discovered called MoonGlow. MoonGlow is a long-wearing polyester-based laminate infused with luminescence that soaks in natural and manmade light. In daylight the material is an ivory hue, in the dark it glows neon-green and remains luminescent for hours once exposed to light.

The E.D.C. Manix2 is available exclusively through E.D.C.'s distribution channels. It's blade is Crucible Steel's powdered technology CPM-S30V and is flat-ground with thumb serrations(jimping) and an oversized 14mm Spyderco Round Hole.

Locking the blade open is an exceptionally strong lock patented by Spyderco called the Ball Bearing Lock. The Ball Bearing Lock operates via a free-floating bearing encased in an impact resistant polymer cage. Its spherical shape allows the lock to adjust across a large surface for solid and consistent lock-up. Inside the MoonGlow handle scales are skeletonized dual steel liners increasing rigidity and strength without adding unneeded weight. The liners are scalloped, extending slightly beyond the handle scales creating textured jimping around sections of the handle's perimeter.

Thanx Much,
The Spyderco Crew

Nice looking knife you've got there, where did you get it? I've tried, but officially now I can't keep up with the Manix sprints and dealer runs anymore :(

Looks like his came from a dealer (judging from the CC# on it, DemskeetSkeet's either a collector's club member or the dealer he got it from is), but the knife was commissioned by Every Day Carry forums (EDCforums).

Mine hasn't shipped yet and I was kind of hoping to get it this week since I'll be out of town all next week. I'm sure mine will show up Monday right after I leave and will be sitting at my house all week waiting for me to return. Don't worry, someone will be here so it won't be sitting on the porch all that time!

So based on what it says on the edge-u-cation paper, this is a new handle material called "moonglow" and isn't simply glow-in-the-dark g-10?

Would be pretty cool if the sprint run Jester used this stuff...

Edit: On second thought, no it wouldn't.

Never been a fan of moonglow and similar products. It just doesn't come off as elegant or particularly functional to me. Oh well.

Enjoy your new knife! :)

How long does it glow before needing to be recharged? How long does it take to charge it in normal room light or would that do it? How about charging it outdoors in the sunlight?
