Grinding the wave off

I scored a bunch of cheap waved Endura trainers a while ago. I've also thought about grinding the wave off. Every time we go hard with them, someone will lose a chunk of skin. It's happened 5 or 6 times so far.

I see the wave being really useful for practicing deployment, if you carry a live version. For hard training though, I don't like it.
