old and new Native differences

#1

Post by gabo »

I noticed the Native at my dealer in a dark blue box is a slightly darker color blade and a bit more belly than the older white box model I have. My wife had more important things to do with it,so I'm looking for a ne one.

Is the color of the blade indicative of different heat treat? Will it sharpen easier than my old 440v one?

Just curious of the differences.

How old is "older"? If it has some real age, the heat treat may well ahve changed. Otherwise, I'd attribute it to time and wear.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Dude, the early C-41 Natives were made in 440A and G-2 steel. I think there is also an ATS-34 version.. They are easy to sharpen and holds a good edge! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

"old" one is 440v, same as the newer one.

I'll wager the difference is heat treat, as 440V took quite a while for the knifemaking community to figure out.

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Interesting that one appears to have more belly...is it possible that the actual blade profile has been changed?
