EDC Combo?

#1

Post by MyNameIsJoe »

What 2 Spyderco knives would you consider the best combo for edc? Ideally, the combo would include one knife for utility use and one for sd. Also, I already own a saber grind delica if you want to include that.

I stay away from G10 as an EDC. It will DESTROY your pants pocket. I much prefer FRN for this reason.

During the work week, I carry an Endura or Stretch. Weekends are more varied; my Sage1, UKPK, Pollywog G10, Michael Walker Sprint and even sometimes a Captain finds a home in my right front pocket.

I could easily use my knife 10-20 times an hour at work, which means that it is in and out of my pocket all of the time. On the weekend, it may get pulled out once a day which is why I don't mind carrying G10 on those days.

Today was the Chokwe and a etched Spin. There are so many different variables, so it just depends on what i am doing for the day.

I agrre with you maximally, my Millie destroyed my stock's pocket during 2 months.. :(

During working time I used to carry my SS Police, Muela Colibri or Victorinox Forester. Weekend knives are a Military G-10, Buck 110 or Muela Gavilan.

Hey Joe, I would say something in s30v for utility like a para or maybe a standard manix 2, won't dull as fast. And for sd E4 wave or a regular E4 with a ziptie mod, fast deployment and its cheap, can always replace it. Happy hunting :)

My preferred "at work" EDC combo pair has always been my D2 Para & 440V SE Millie.
My SE Millie is always carried, the PE blade changes depending on what cutting duties I can see the day bringing. IMO a EDC pair should compliment each other, one knife should be able to perform duties which the other may fail. I don't carry a knife for SD so I'll leave that to some one more qualified... although there is Chinook III in my bedside drawer just in case things go bump in the night ;) .

I carry a BobT and a Zowada daily. Although I do not usually carry a knife for
SD, the TZ probably could fit that role pretty well. When I feel the need for an SD knife, the TZ is replaced by the Yojimbo, the Street Beat or the PPT.

Do not carry for SD purposes so take this for what it is worth, but a CE Millie and G10 Delica seem to find themselves in my pocket when I know I have work to do. The CE Millie will get switched out for a CE Stretch FRN.

I know that Combo edges are not particularily popular but they seem to work for me on utility/work knifes with longer blades since I always carry a smaller plain edged knife.

I generally carry a Stretch and a Kiwi. Between the two of them, they've handled every task I've ever needed them to. As far as SD goes, I've reached sixty five without ever being in situation where a knife would have reduced the damage caused by a human attacker to me, or anyone I know personally. Dog attacks are a different matter, so they are my primary SD concern and I'm confident the Stretch would serve me as well as any knife I own to defend against one.

Nice question. For me, I never leave the house without a knife in my pocket, but also never leave with more than one knife if I'm not going to work. In my view, that one knife better be able to do both EDC and SD, and most certainly will each one degree or another. Of the 30+ pocket knives I have (21 of which are Spydercos) I'd say the Para2, Stretch, Maniz2, Embassy, and Endura find their ways into my pocket most frequently.

I like the SS cricket as a little brother to the Delica. It's not the least bit threatening to most people and the blade shape is awesome for EDC tasks. Also, without (or with) the clip the cricket fits perfectly in the watch pocket of your jeans so flat that you'll forget you're carrying two. If you want your Delica to be the smaller of the two knives, a flat ground E4 is another good supplement.

Dragonfly 2 FRN in my pocket.
Stretch 2 FRN in my bag.
If it will be a field day, I might throw in my orange G10 Millie.

G10 FFG Delica and a CE Delica.

"I stay away from G10 as an EDC. It will DESTROY your pants pocket. I much prefer FRN for this reason."

I had the same issue with my Delica. I smoothed up the G10 a bit just where the clip contacts the handle. Now I can actually get it out of my pocket and the wear is no worse than my FRN models.

This week I've been carrying FRN UKPK in Brown with a leaf blade and a Vesuvius with the blue pearlized/abalone insert.
