Thanks for the warning. Virae (sp?) suck. Got one in the mail the other day, luckily I don't have a wintel machine, no programmer in his right mind would bother writing a virus for a mac. (Or own one) <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
What did the message in the e-mail say? *grin*
*chuckles something about fighting fires with flame* <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Thanks for the warning. A few days ago I got a CIH that tore down my entire network. I definitely wouldn't like to start all over again. Shame on those who use such a friendly name as <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> as a password!

Virii...not good, not good at all. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
While my Internet security is overall pretty good, (I have 4 different emails, 1 for secure stuff) some things are just annoying.
However, I have seen one excellent way to combat virii: Instant destruction, followed by blocking of the name. Works every time.
Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

If you're scared of getting an email virus? Why not delete the email directly off the server so you don't have to download it.
'Mailwasher' is excellent for this.
http://www.mailwasher.net/
You can set it to bounce back their email so it looks like your address has been closed down and makes them think you no longer exist...<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Now ain't that cool!

I received that, and of course instantly deleted it w/o opening. I would never open an executable file from an unknown source. By the way, the spelling and grammer in the text of the message was so bad that I could hardly understand what it said...
Raden,
Thanks for the heads up. I wondered if it was a virus, and if so if it was maybe from goofy.
Jeff.

Had a few odd ones in the last week... about 4-5... just a topic, no text, no attachment...
No problems about viruses on this comp. Norton is a '95 version, and last I checked I had 3.1BIL known viruses it was protected against. Including about 20 strains of the Black Plague.
<img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf> We all start with 10 fingers. Those with Spydies have 9 to spare, Still need a thumb. Good thing I still have 8 to spare... <img src=http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/372fcedb ... 8A88UxWudf>

From what I hear, a virus called W32.Klez.E@mm is making the rounds. It's a mass-mailing email worm. More here if you are interested:

I haven't received the email and I don't have the virus on my computer. However someone has set me up by sending the virus to another person and making it look as though it has come from me. This is the only board that I visit regularly so it is most likely that someone here is responsible. Now who have I upset recently?
Not happy.

The way most viruses (virii?) like this work, is that they replicate by sending themselves to every email address in the address book on an infected computer. Some even fake the "from" address by picking random addresses from the address book or received emails. What probably happened is that someone that had received an email from you or has your address in their address book got a virus and it faked its "from" address by picking yours at random. It probably wasn't deliberate.
What's the deal? I got another today. This one was with a bladeforums subject.
Glad the antivirus is up to date.
This one was from jesthay@bellsouth.net
Spyderbyte,
I understand that the virui is spread like that. My point is I only use the Spyderco@charter.net here and at Bladeforums.com and if it wasn't sent on purpose to me then someone here has it on their computer.

Thanks for the explanation Spyderbyte. I'm glad to know that there's nobody out to get me <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. I received a heads up email from Symantec about this virus yesterday, apparently it's spreading like wild fire. I updated my definitions and scanned my computer and it's clean, so I definitely didn't send it.
