Mini-Military?

#1

Post by PsychGrad »

I recall hearing the possibility of a mini-mil here a while back. Has anyone heard anything about this?

I've been looking at the military for quite some time but I can't bring myself to get one because I wouldn't want a knife that large as an EDC. Should I pick one up anyway?

Thanks,

Hey PsychGrad :

Word of advice : wait until the mini mil
becomes reality ; in the meantime, if you
want an EDC try the "Native" C41S&PBK ; at
about $50 it's a good choice as interim EDC.

Sal´s own words:
The Military jr is back on the front burners. We're working on having a prototype at the Blade Show in May/June.

The plan calls for a Compression Lock nested into G10 scales like the Temperance Jr. Color will be ABB (Anything but black), probably green G10, at least for the proto.

Production steel will more than likely be S30V or VG10 (.125 thick). Production will be in the US. The new name for this model is the "Paramilitary" (TM).

PsychGrad Get a Military now dude and save up for the paramilitary later. I'm sure it won't be out for at least a couple of months. I pretty much had the same question about the Military as you "is it too big?" I have to say that if the Military's blade is legal wherever you are then no the military is not to big. It is very light and carries like a much smaller knife. It practically dissapears into my pocket and that is what everyone else said as well when I asked the question. The cutting power and sturdiness of the Military is Awesome and I can't Imagine thinking it is too big now. Just get it. You'll Love it Guaranteed. If you don't you can probably trade it for something smaller but I can say that if you're thinkig about getting it you're allready the kind of guy that would love it.

Not to sure about the compression lock.I think it should be exactly the same as the Milli only smaller.Other colors would be ok.

Hmmm... Anything but black... I happen to like black. No use making an otherwise tactical-looking knife look less threatening by giving it pink G-10 scales

Now, if Spyderco started making a few of their more popular G-10 knives (like the Military and Lil' Temperance) in dark or cobalt blue, that wouldn't be too bad. A dark shale grey would look pretty good too, slightly less aggro-looking while still maintaining a "knife look". I'm just not a fan of the olive drab color on the Lil' Temperance.

Anyway, I guess it's the Gunting for me. Hearing the description of the Paramilitary design makes the Gunting seem somewhat similar, obviously without the impact cusps, but with similar blade length and overall size.

Re: Para-Military ~ There has to be a Black G-10 version...please!. The handle shape of the current Millie is fantastic. I hope they don't change it much.

So I get by with a wee by my side!

I'm assuming this will have double steel liners due to the combination of the compression lock and the synthetic scales??

This assumption comes from a previous thread on the Vesuvius, someone from (???) said all knives with synthetic scales and the compression lock were to have double liners???
