Spyderco PPT with blue G10!

#1

Post by WhitefeatherTexas »

Check out my modification to this PPT! This is my first time working with G10 so its a little sloppy but I achieved the desired look I suppose. I used a Dremel tool with a tungsten carbide bit to cut out the blank, then I used a sanding drum to shape the scale. Hopefully my next try will have a little better fit and finish. Let me know what ya'll think, and please, give me some tips and constructive criticism. Thanks.

I'm not good enough to take orders yet, but I've thought about it.

Looks awesome! I really like that blue. When you say you used a sanding drum to shape the scale, was that on just the sides, or did you also use the sanding drum to form the scalloped grooves as well?

I used the sanding drum on the sides as well as for forming the scallops.

Those really look good! Totally different look with the blue color.

Can you post a picture of the bit you used to cut the blanks? I'm trying to use a Dremel on a similar project and having some problems.

Cheers!

Are you kidding me? I love it. Great job. It does look like a totally different knife versus black scales.

I researched what to use when cutting and everyone said that G10 will grind regular steel blades to a dull edge. I picked up a tungsten carbide bit intended for cutting tile and other ceramics. I suggest getting the router table attachment that Dremel makes; I didn't have one and I had to make a router table out of wood, which didn't make for a very accurate cut.
