Michael Walker Carbon Fiber

#1

Post by gull wing »

Is a small but mighty knife. First, designed a beautiful knife, but despite it's small size it feels great in hand. It's easy to use, open/close. The ZDP blade is well, cool, with the thumb ramp and the tasteful swedge. It cuts everything smoothly.
Now for the "but"!
I made several changes to make it more "My" knife without changing too much of the look. Look at these photos following and see if you can identify the changes. I will post later with a list of changes.

I too love my Michael Walker CF. I must admit though when I first got it I did not like it.

Took me about 2 months to "warm up" to the knife.

Now I really do enjoy the knife.

As far as your mods... Jimping, and recessed screw heads, umm what else... *scratches head*

Looks like added jimping, moved pocket clip, countersunk screws, no lanyard hole, larger cut out in the scale for liner lock. That's all I see.

New 1/8" thick, from 3/32" CF scales.(sunk hardware to allow reach)
Moved cutout for lock, up a little, making it easier to reach lock lug.(same size)
Left off the "other" cutout on lock side scale.(not left handed)
Left off the lanyard.(will not take this knife camping or fishing)
Relocated clip for a deeper ride.(taping hard steel is a task :) )
Cut jimping on ramp.(feels secure)
Did not fracture carbon fiber at holes.

Can return it to the way it was. :D

Superb work ... but if you can glue the steel back into those jimping slots then I'll take my hat off to you Sir! :D

Looks very slick. Nice work on the mods. Just curious, does that knife come stock with a silver clip or did you strip it?

I carry the CF Walker and it is the perfect EDC for me. Your changes are professional and I am impressed. I had jimping done by str and think it is a must on this knife. You did a great job and thanks for the pics. Thanks to Spyderco for the sprint run on this model.

It took me a little while to warm up to the Walker also. It's now one of my favorites to carry. Opening the cell phone packaging for the salesperson at Best Buy because he was thinking it was dangerous with scissors was kind of fun. It is made of really tough plastic and the Walker handled it with ease.

Jimping on Michael Walker

Post by jackknifeh »

Hello Gull Wing,

Very nice modifications.

How did you do the jimping on the blade? I've wished it was there on mine ever since I got it but never considered doing it myself. I would consider goind further down the blade into the curve of the spine. I have a Dremel and all kinds of cutting wheels. I would be willing to try the Dremel but I'd rather wait to see if you would tell me how you did yours.

Nice work! I especially like what you did with the clip, the stock clip rides too high IMO.
