byrd Cara Cara Rescue - E-Mail from a Soldier

#1

Post by TazKristi »

Just wanted to share an e-mail we received recently. We know that some people have wondered if the same focus on performance and quality exists with our byrd knives. The answer to that question is simple, yes.

"Today i was involved in a small accident with falling out of the back of a vehicle. Our standard operation procedure is a fall of more than 12 feet must be backboarded and taken to the ER for a CAT scan. Being on a field exercise I was wearing ballistic body armor. The medics had to cut the vest off of me in order to place me on the board. Two pairs of EMT sheers, some random pocket knife and 10 minutes later they had only cut away one side of the vest. At this point I was still alert and I had instructed someone to get my Cara Cara Rescue knife from the pocket on my vest. 30 seconds and 10 slices later the right side of my vest was cut away clean leaving a smooth cut in the Kevlar material. looking at the vest as I sit here it is clear that my cara cara made a clean defined slice through the vest and the other attempts on the opposite shoulder leave the vest shredded torn and mangled. I would personally like to thank you and your company for making such a fine product, im considering buying a hand full just to keep around for future use. Sincerely, A Satisfied Soldier From Maine"
There is nothing more important than this one day.

That's awesome.

What's even more awesome is that this guy is such a knife knut that while he's being put in a stretcher for falling off the back of a vehicle, he's sitting there thinking about how well his knife performed :D

That's great news.

That's a great story - no better recommendation than from the front. :)

Out of interest, how does the US army treat personal knives? There's a bit of a scandal over here because if a UK soldier is given a non-standard-issue knife they are allowed to use it in the field but they're not allowed to bring it home ... meaning they tend to get passed to the next wave of troops to come out.
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

This story just reminded me about a 93mm Blue Rescue I would like to have. Maybe I need to put that one on the front burner to purchase.

Great story. I have the Cara Rescue and the serrations on it are the best I've
seen and used, just right, no snagging.
Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!

They may bring them home also, even automatics.
