Linda,

Lucky lady<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>. That's why I only shoot ammo that I mix myself. I don't trust the other guy's. Take care<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>.

A tough decision. Ford's Found On Road Dead versus Chevy's Cheap, Hardly Efficient, Virtually Runs On Luck Every Time. Sounds like the makings of a really bad Monty Python skit to me.

I'll stick with Drips Oil Drop Grease Everywhere-mobiles. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

S&S
Sounds like DODGE but acts like a Harley. An old one at least. Or maybe a Limey bike.

Part 2

Jaxon,
57 Chevys aren't bad. If you look at racing in general, Ford has had a lot more victories than Chevy! Back in "the day" it was primarily Ford and Dodge on top. If you look at Nascar, Ford has many more victories than Chevy. At Indy, many years ago it was Ford that put an end to the "Offy" (Offenhauser) dynasty that ruled for some 30 years. I had a chance to get to know John Drake, of Drake/Offy fame. Ford motors ruled Indy for several years after. Where was Chevy during all this... probably hiding. When Chevy did enter the engine wars, they had little success and left after two years with their tail between their legs. They couldn't build a reliable motor to save their life! Ford Cosworth DFX was an awesome engine.

In the mid sixties Henry Ford tried to buy Ferrari, but Enzo (Ferrari) would not sell! Ford wanted the fame of winning the 24 hours of Le Mans. Which Ferrari dominated for several years. Since Ferrari would not budge Ford put out an all out effort to build a car to do this. The car is known as the GT 40, 40 is the center height of the roof in inches. The first year they had problems with the car, to be more precise the gearbox. They used a Colloti Italian gearbox that was problematic. The next year they used ZF, a German company that was a great design. With drivers like a young and then relatively unknown Mario Andretti they had great success. One year the GT 40's finished first second and third. The GT 40 is better known as "The Ferrari Killer". Has chevy ever had results like that? NO!!! Ford has also been dominant in Formula 1, with a V-10 engine (most all engine builders used V-10) you may remember the Benniton Ford that a "rookie" driver then (Michael Schummacher) took several victories in. Again no Chevy interest there, why not? They had nothing to compete with.

In WRC (World Rallye Championship) racing the Ford Focus is an all wheel drive car that has good success, again no Chevy interest, why? Who knows!

Another example... The A/C Cobra 427, this car kicks a$$ 0 to 100 MPH and back down to zero in ten seconds. WOW!! 0 to 60 in something like 4.3 seconds. The complete body is hand pounded Aluminum and only weighs fifty pounds. Has Chevy ever built a car like that? No. Only 55 were built (427) very rare indeed. They sell for 300 to 500 thousand, and the GT 40 I mentioned before, they sell from anywhere from 1 to 1.8 million dollars.

Lets talk breifly about Trans Am racing... back in the late Sixties and early Seventies the Mustang dominated with a driver named George Follmer, The Boss 302 (you were limited to 5.0 liter engines) engine could be coaxed to extracting the most horsepower per cubic inch. Current day Trans Am was dominated by Tom Kendall, any body who wanted to be competetive raced a mustang PERIOD!!! Tom Kendall has a record of ten wins in a season of forteen races, again no chevy records like that.

Drag racing... two words, Bob Glidden, Pro Stock champ for something like ten years!

Anyway, you get the picture. I don't need to go on and on. Although I could. I won't try to change you from a Chevy fan to Ford. I'm more than happy to race the "Blue Oval".

Anyone who wants to talk racing, I'm here!

Glasshartt,

I see your point, I just love that blue Python finish though.

Jeepers, Batman! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Hoosierdaddy,

Well, although all the facts line up and Ford no doubt has a great product, I just can't see myself in one.<img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> What the heck....
I guess I don't care what I drive providing that it runs good.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The only Ford I WOULD NOT want is the old Pinto's. And you know why....<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Cheers!

Hey Hoosierdaddy,
I said '57 Chevy<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> against '57 Ford<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> (Fairlane<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>, I think) not Cobra and all. That ain't fair. Hee, Hee<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

SpyderNut,

Don't forget Chevy pick-ups from I believe the early to mid 80s, as they had a similar "Pinto problem" (exploding gas tanks) Remember when NBC got caught with igniters trying to make the Pick-up explode for the TV cameras? The Chevy had real problems, it's just Dateline wanted it to go "BOOM" the first time!

Al,

You can buy me a pint of Guiness (cold please) it just happens to be my favorite beer. Or should I say favourite <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Jaxon,

The 57 Ford had much greater success in racing (Nascar) than the Chevy at that time! I will admit 57 Chevy has more of a Cult type following than the Ford of that year. In the 40s, 50s, and 60s the real hot rodders and racers bought Fords. They were considered more High Performance.

The fact that you're a "Gearhead" is good enough for me, be it Ford or Chevy! I just like a good debate!

Chevy has it's place in automotive history, the same place they've always had, right behind FORD!!!

Hey guys, with all the talk about Fords and Glocks, I forgot to mention my favorite 9mm, the Steyr GB. Some people think it is ugly (from the pre-Glock days), but it is the sweetest shooting 9mm I've ever fired, I just can't carry it on duty because it is not Double-Action only. It has a gas based operating system and has almost no kick (I know 9mm's don't kick much as it is)and the magazines have a 18 round capacity. And the best part is that it didn't cost me a cent!!

Hi All, I'm Glasshartt's husband. You know, "the Keeper." I agree with Linda about the Glocks, if not the caliber. .45 acp for me, now and forever. However, the hairs on the back of my neck always stand up and prick my hide, when I hear someone call a magazine a clip. If you want to see a clip, I'll gladly show you one from my M1 Garand (my lovely wife gave it to me as a gift). Thanks, I feel better now.

DZScubie,

Well I couldn't have said it better myself regarding the "clips" issue! I've argued that point till I'm blue in the face, some people just don't get it. (can you tell I like to argue!)

I'm a 357 Mag. kind of guy (six inch Python)
For pistols I prefer 40 S&W, slightly less recoil, stopping power marginally better, lighter "magazines" when loaded and usually higher cap. unless you have a Para. P-14 or 16. Now that's a handful! Just in case you're wondering I'm 6'5" 225 lbs. have LARGE hands and capable of handling a Para. One of my buddies has a P-10 that's not to bad, fun to shoot.

Howdy DZScubie! Welcome to <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Land! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I'll stand with you on the clip/magazine issue. The grizzled rangemaster in me just screams at incorrect terminology (The bolt is NOT "that tubular thing"!!!). However, I usually can set people right. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

Hey KK, GlassHartt & ALL

You people have kept this thread running! I
used to carry a ERMA KGP-68a ( .380acp ) when
I did carry. That was in Connecticut. I found
the bigger the gun, the more difficult it was
to abide by Ct. Concealed Carry laws. Not that BIG GUNS don't fascinate me, it's just that, if the "weapon" were NOT concealed, your permit to carry it thus would grow wings. <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> BTW Florida law does not consider
firearms "weapons" as per their statutes! <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
But, as that was in my past, I stick to the
more harmless pursuit of collecting Spydies<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
