You would have to use a ceramic ball bearing and replace other steel components with a rust-proof alternative. Further to be a H1 knife you would have to import the steel from Japan (and not flat-grind it) or find a domestic equivalent.

Hi Metals of War,

What you are asking would be very challenging. There re many metal parts in a Manix. Each pat would have to be custom made in a special material to make a rust proof Manix. I think the efort and cost would far exceed the potential market.

I know I would still buy a cost prohibitive H1/LC200N. Wonder if anything has changed in all these years? I would love to see another pink scaled, new steel Manix on the market too.

Based on what i've been hearing a manix 2 salt really doesn't sound that likely simply because of the cost of specializing the architecture. So much so that it would make the price a little too unappealing for too many people.

It could either be made as a high end exclusive luxury item (think like a Ferrari they only sell to, like, 17, of their FAVORITE customers)

Or a Salt version of a similarly sized knife could get made
Would a Salty Shaman work?
How about a military salt (a navy!?)
There is the Caribbean too so that should also be kept in mind

I would like a Manix Salt, but it sounds extremely unlikely.

Fortunately, the Pacific Salt does exist.

My question is what is actually "cost prohibitive"? They have some Manix 2's approaching $250, so how much more could it be for LC200N?

The ball bearing would need to be made of something like LC200N, H1, or ceramic. The spring would need to be LC200N or H1. Also, the housing for the lock would need to be LC200N or H1. It's not just the added cost of the blade. The other Salt knives are pretty simple in comparison. Would LC200N or H1 work well for a spring? I'm not sure they would. From what I understand, H1 is pretty soft. I don't know about LC200N, or how many cycles it could take as a spring. Then there would be the testing of hardness levels for springs. The R&D, materials and time, would certainly add to the cost. It would be a new knife altogether. Maybe there are other viable steels out there, which can be used for making the springs, ball bearing, and lock housing.

Maybe a better idea would be a manix 2 lightweight lockback in LC200N. I know the lockbacks didn't sell incredibly well, but for a salt knife, it makes sense.

Manix LW salt in LC200N ought to be doable nowadays, if the demand is there.

I know I'd be into it. :)

I would think that the backlock version of the Manix 2 would be much easier to convert into a Salt iteration. I wonder how many people who prefer the CBBL to the backlock would be willing to compromise because the Manix has such great ergos.

A Millie would still be my choice to make Salty.
