Help me decide...

#1

Post by Monkeywrangler »

I am thinking of getting another Spydie. I have in the family, the CAT, Mule 5 & 6, Caly 3, waved delica, waved endura 4, 154cm Manix 2, 2 Swicks(1-2), s30v walmart Native. I love the Manix2, but for me it generally takes up too much pocket real estate, and is heavy to boot. It will be getting a Krein FFG done soon which will help though. I like G10 for scales best, and tend to like leaf shaped blades a lot. I prefer locks, so I don't really want a UKPK. I love a finger choil on a knife.

Make some suggestions for me, and plead your case for that knife. I have looked at the Sage series, and am also thinking about a Stretch. Finally, esthetics are important as well as the obvious ergonomics. If I think the knife looks goofy I will pass.

TIA,
MW

(This is sort of a plea for someone to convince me I want a Stretch.)

The Caly 3 is truly a laser-sharp beauty.

Another small Spyderco classic you might want to consider is the Cricket -- I've never heard of a person who wasn't totally surprised at what a great knife it is for constant-carry.

Stretch II :D It's my candidate for the best EDC knife Sal has designed to date. Great ergonomics, 14mm Spyderhole for totally reliable opening, excellent blade to handle ratio, and it cuts like a demon.

I see lots of you have voted for the Stretch, bot only Deacon has said "why" he likes it. What do you like about the Stretch more than the others listed?

I voted Caly 3 CF as its days are numbered.

The Stretch as well as the others that are not yet out will probably be around for a long while.......

Food for thought...........

And if you get a Stretch 2, try for the early course jimping........
(Traded the fine)

I would go for a CF Manix 2. But it was not an option........

The stretch just feels great and I think it looks great too. It has a great blade shape and perfect EDC length in your choice of VG-10 or ZDP steel. Choice of FRN, peel ply CF, or SS w/ Kraton inlay (discontinued). If youve never held one, you owe it to yourself.

I voted Stretch. I don't have one yet, but it's definitely the June knife of the month for me. But ****, I'm in LOVE with the Dialex Junior. I'd vote for that, but a knife you have now is way better than the one you don't have yet.

Not really a derailment, since it's in the poll. Here's a link to Mr Blonde's photo of it from the A'dam show. Note that it was, at that point, still a concept model so the wait may be a long one.

Thanks for linking that Deacon. I had to page thru 17 some pages of the A'dam thread to look at it yesterday before including it in the poll.

Now if only I could find a Stretch locally to fondle then I could make a more 'informed' decision!

I would get a FFG CTS-XHP Foliage Green Manix and then get custom scales if you want them. CF, different color G10, SF StoneWorks, whatever makes you smile.

All sound good to me, except the ones you're waiting for..lol, although I'd be interested in them when they come out. Depends on what you want the knife for.

My standard Manix is a great, tough, heavy duty utility kinfe, the Stretch is a terrific slicer as well as being useful for just about anything. Tasman Salt SE is if you're on a boat and have to cut a lot of fibrous stuff. If I had to choose one I'd say the Stretch.
