#1

Post by henk1966 »

I was wondering,amongst you are meattesters,like Dr Snubnose ;)

What spydie is the best cutter, tough materials, etc

What spydie is the best slicer?

I,ve seen a couple of spydies in the last decade, but one,s better than the other in performing due to design ofcourse.

I am not familiair with all models, that,s why I,m asking :D

In my very modest collection of Spyderco knives my Military is a super slicer. I use
it on food prep quite a bit. I've often wondered if the Centofante would also be a
nice slicer? Thin blade on it I've heard.
My Byrd rescue with full serrations is a heck of a cutter on tough material.
Use your blades in the kitchen, it's great bonding time!

Pretty well anything with a plain edge blade, and more so if the blade is thin.

A bellied blade like a Stretch 2 is a wicked slicer.

At least for me the zdp full flat blades breeze through pretty much everything. The Caly/Calypso knives being prob the best factory ones closely followed by other thin blades like the stretch, ffg delica, etc.

Wharnies and hawkbills take to the task the easiest regarding penetrating because the tips are aggressively angled. Some of our forumites who are electritions swear by the Tasman as it's very tough.

While on tests involving meat and lighter duty cutting thin blades perform amazing I'm still a bit hesitant for tough materials (like the yojimbo). Pocket warriors like the Manix2 and Gayle Bradley may lack some blade geometry but they are stout an confidence inspiring. I can cut nastier packaging with a Superhawk or Manix for the amazing grip and this confidence much easier.

If I'm not mistaken it's a wharncliff either the Yojimbo or the Ronin that did the best in meat cutting tests.

Delica FFG? A thin, 2.5mm blade... Everything else pretty much is 3mm. I think this is as thin as it gets.

Stretch 2 is the by far the best slicing/cutting knife I've ever owned. Centofante 3 also seemed like an awesome slicer when i had one on loan for a week.
