Native or Stretch 2?

#1

Post by kawr »

Im looking to buy my 2nd spydie in a week or so and im torn between the Native and the Stretch 2. Leaning toward the Stretch because the Native lacks SS liners but what do you guys think?

Stretch II would be my choice. Only advantage for the Native is that it's more compact. On the other hand, grind, blade length, Spyderhole size, and carry options all favor the Stretch II.

Third vote for the Stretch. It has a ton of cutting edge and a very sizable hole.

The Native is compact but is more like a wide/stubby Delica.

Both knives are extremely tough. The Stretch has liners but a thinner blade which makes it a great slicer.

Until the Native 4 FRN model comes out, I would have to go with the Stretch 2 FRN.

The Native is a nice, US built EDC knife with a fine steel, and for a fair price.

The Stretch is one of the best 3 knives Spyderco ever designed IMO. If I had to keep only one, it would be the Stretch. Get one, you won't regret it.

I obviously like both.... ;) :

I added the blue one later... maybe I will have to do another updated family pic.

It certainly does, in my opinion. I am a Stretch contrarian.

Ill probably go with the stretch after reading all the glowing reviews about it. Also ive been told it's Sal's baby? Cant go wrong with that imo. Anyways thanks for the input guys. Normally i would just buy whatever i like best but being a on tight college student budget i want to get something worthwhile and not waste money.

Yeah, Sal designed it for himself. Don't worry, there are a few of us on here who are on the college budget and making the right choice is tough.

I had a FRN/VG-10 Stretch for a short while and came away very impressed. It wasn't quite enough to take the Military out of my pocket, but I was impressed enough to give it to a very good friend. I don't give away a knife unless I like it, especially to someone like him.

I also really like the Native design. I love my Native 4 and am anxiously awaiting the G-10 and FRN versions of it. But they are very different designs and if you can only get one of them, make it a Stretch.

Native S30V is very good cheap knife, but it's riveted. Stretch 2 has screws. I like Stretch for good ratio of blade to handle. I thing, that blue one ZDP-189 is best choice!
