Help with big fat fingers

#1

Post by jezabel »

Well as the title suggests, I need some help finding out what folders work for those of you with mammoth size hands and FAT ( and I mean that in the nicest possible way) fingers!
I'm starting to do some research on a gift for my father in law's 60th which is a few months away yet.
I'd especially like to know what smaller ( 3 inch blades and under) work well.
FWIW I easily "palm" a basket ball with my largish hands, but they're dwarfed by my in laws sledge hammer like mits (my height's 6ft 1, he's 6ft 6).

Any thought greatly appreciated.

Jezabel.

Para-Military, it's got a larger then average Spydie hole (14mm I believe) and the handle is larger then average. I wear a size 10 glove or bigger usually and the handle is big for my hand. Plus it's just an awesome knife.

Agreed with the Para-Military recommendation. It should work well for those with big, snausage-like fingers :)

I've got long fingers rather than fat ones, and use the full handle on my millie comfortably. Size 12 ring is slightly loose on my middle finger.

I'd say look around for a lil temp, salsa or lava. My ss 'fly disappears in my hand, and I've been abusing it since 01.

The Para Military only works for big fingers when choked up. Lil' Temp is great in a 3" blade but expensive and hard to come by. The Kiwi works surprisingly well with big fingers. In a fixed blade the Caspian is a great utility knife right at 3" and, because it was designed for diving gloves, is very comfortable for large hands.

Do you have any in hand pics with your Kiwi?
I'd like to get him something a bit more personal like a Gents knife, rather than a work knife (that would be a lot easier though, & FWIW I'm huge fan of the Para ). I like the idea of a Kiwi, though he's not really a "wharnie" user. I think the mini Persian might be a bit fiddly for him, although blade shape would suit him perfectly and if another big Persian passes my way I'll find it too hard to resist for myself. Is anyone using the new Centofante slippie? I'm open to discontinued models too as I have a bit of time up my sleeve on this one...

Cheers Jez.

Would a Spydie with a Cobra Hood like the Salsa work?

Gayle Bradley Folder?

With the less pronounced bolstering and tail (compared to the Stretch) I would think large fingers could grab it with less discomfort. It's essentially a 3.5" blade but doesnt seem in pictures to be sizable in width like the Superhawk, Chinook, Manix2, etc.

The GB is great, I've had mine for a few day's now and am really enjoying it. If your referring to the handle depth/width it actually exactly the same depth as my Chinook III, the "shrunken" scales of the GB give it the illusion of it being thinner.
I could solve some of my problems by getting him to try all my Spydies and see what he likes but that takes the surprise out everything.
