A salt Wave

#1

Post by BBQ BOY »

Would be great. Since I live on salt water we take the boat out and often go to beaches and drink beers. There can be up to 300 boats out there at a time. Often we will stand in the salt water and hang out and have a few. Anyway, a salt Endura would be great for this and pop open some beers. I have a lake house too but the regular wave would probably be ok for that I guess.

I agree, wave salt series are a nice match, can be very handy, with a flat grind blade, it can be my ultimate bar knife and replace my rusted Military

I think that's a great idea. I live very close to salt water and would find it to be very useful while on the boat and hanging around the beach.

Turning the current Endura 4 into a Salt would require all new rustproof liners and hardware. Steve Rice (STR), who has his own sub-forum over on BladeForums, is licensed by Emerson to add the Emerson opener to knives. You might want to consider having him "wave" a Pacific Salt for you.

Would waving a pacific salt be any more difficult than waving the Endura?

How in the world could you wave and existing knife? Wouldn't it completely destroy the spydie hole?

Yes, I have seen pics in the past where people have sacrificed the spydie hole & turned it into a hook-like wave. Not my preference, but then again, it's not my knife either :o

STR does it with a wave notch that's much smaller than Spyderco's interpretation of the wave. It actually looks more like the wave on an Emerson. Doesn't cut into or otherwise compromise the Spyderhole opener at all.

Deacon,

That link lead me to a blade swap post, not an "create a wave" picture. Here is a link to one I was thinking of, but it is an Endura.

Same concept as it would be on a Salt series.

I just watched a video from shot show and Sal said they can't FFG H1. I think Krien hsa though  but yes I would be very interested in a salt wave

I contacted STR and when OI get a Pacific Salt I am going to send it in to have done. I just wish the H1 Logo wouldn't be compromised.

Correct. Full flat grinding an H-1 blade is something that can be done on a custom basis, but is not practical to do on a production basis.

A free diver buddy of mine and I had this conversation a few years back. He keeps a pacific salt with him in the waist of his trunks and it's bailed him out a couple of times. After his first close call with some kelp off pizmo, he and I made a slightly oversized kydex wave, secured via an aluminum rivet. Granted, most folks own salts as utility knives for boating and fishing but for divers, a fast-deploying, slim, compact and comfortable knife with the option of partial serration would probably turn a lot of dive-masked heads. It'd probably be a little too niche to actually consider but I know some folks that'd buy a rescue oriented salt folder in a heartbeat.
