Ive done a search and I just cannot find it. Im sure I remember seeing a thread here a while ago when I was lurking that discussed the validity between Full Serrated Blades vs. Plain Edge Blades.

Im more interested in whether there is anything said about SE and PE Hawkbill blades.

Any pointers.

Those are the threads from the past year, in General Discussion, with more than 10 replies, and "serrated" in the title.

While I don't Have any guide or article on serrated and plain edges, I can give you my accumulated thoughts on this.

This all refers to camping chores and requirements, as it is the great outdoors where I find my knives with the most action. I have gone through a variety of tasks where my plain edge benefits, such as whittling wood, breaking sticks for firestarters, and cutting rope/line/duct tape.

There were some tasks such as thick sticks and rope that I needed to work through, and serrations would have greatly helped, but I managed. I also used my knife to eat with, by slicing apples or cutting burgers/ dogs and the plain edge was perfect.

As for combo edge, it seems like there is not enough serrations to use very well, and impacts slicing area as well. But maybe with enough use I could grow to love the combo edge.

I hope this makes sense and you found it useful for what you need.

Normally, I prefer plain edges for my work knives, but I find that serrations work better on the hawkbills. YMMV.

Was it pertaining to self defense uses? I had a thread titled something like "combo edge and MBC" a while back where the two types of edges were discussed a bit.

I would imagine that a serrated hawkbill would cut like crazy. One of the advantage of a hawkbill is that it pulls whatever it is you're cutting into the blade as you cut, and if you combine that effect with the additional force concentration serrations provide you end up with a huge amount of force being transmitted through the very small area on the teeth of the serrations.

But... I think such a blade would be very very limited, and PE hawkbills cut like crazy to begin with.

....I love Serrated edges so much.....even my house keys are SE :)

I keep coming across the acronym MBC or MBC/SD. Im assuming the SD is Self Defence, but what is MBC?

MBC = martial blade craft
