Great story, I'm going to try to remember that for my daughter. I'll have to wait little over 8 years, but still, that's a nice tradition.

That is a fine story indeed.

I have six and a half years to go before my daughter gets hers. I'm thinking of getting it now and putting it away until she gets to that age.

Great story Jazz. Just got a Ladybug today for me to try out vg10 sharpening. Well it is the most prolific steel used in Spydies. My wife says that she want's it after I'm finished experimenting. If my eldest daughter (8) saw that purple one, I dread to think of the nagging that would follow. I'm about to paint her room purple.

Congrats man, that was an awesome story! I never had the luxury to do such a thing but ironically I was exposed to guns before knives!

Her mom says she's a bit clumsy still, so I won't let her take it home yet, but we'll be whittling a lot, I hope. :)

- best wishes, Jazz.

Great story and a great reminder that it is time with loved ones, sharing an activity, that really binds families together. I remember the day I got my first pocket knife from my Grandfather. It was a big deal, a sign of trust.

Sheesh, now I feel like I should go have kids so I can do the same thing. Jazz, that means you're paying child support!

Wow, how did I miss this thread?

Jazz, that's a wonderful story! Great how your granddaughter didn't let a couple of Spyder bites slow her down.

Thanks for sharing this with us!

That is absolutely too cool. Kids are amazingly creative, and Grandparents foster it too.

it is nice to see this thread come back to life again. just a FYI for all you dads/granddads/uncles out there thinking about getting a :spyder: for someone special. Call the SFO and they can engrave the knife with the child's name on it. i bought one of those glock enduras (i know way too big for a 1st knife, my son wont get it till he is in his teens) and they were offering engraving for $10 so i put my son's name and birthdate on it. well i needed to get a knife for my daughter too so i bought one of the sprint pink delicas and Spyderco was nice enough to match the engraving like it was done on the endura (it is on the spine) I think it was the first time they had tried engraving in that location, they did a great job! Thanks again Kristi and everyone at the SFO. I ziptied those 2 knives shut so the kids can handle them and my daughter asks at least once a month to go see her knife and hold it :) . i think i need to keep a lookout for a pink ladybug :D .

Water Bug - I figured she'd get at least one cut and didn't know what to expect, but was pleasantly suprised and quite proud of her. :)

Tony - You, sir are brilliant! Why didn't I think of engraving her knife? Not like I didn't just do one for myself. Well, I'll have to put her name and some hearts or something on it. I'll show you when I get around to it. Do you have pics on hand of the spine engraving? I think I've seen it before, but I can't remember. Thanks for the idea.

- best wishes, Jazz.
