Hey Tony, That all looks good and should look great when completed. Is that purple heart that you are using? I've worked with many of the exotic woods and have found heart wood to finish nicely. Best of luck and post when done please. Dan

Sorry, one more question. Why do you think the knife was marked as a second? Dan

Very nice project, Tony. I'd love to do something similar with a Kiwi. I really like that knife but haven't cared much for any of the scale choices to date.

thanks alot Butch, "nice work" means alot coming from someone of your caliber of a knifemaker. i do know what you mean by the fix...i am itching to get back to work but i left all my tools in a locker at work. i probably wouldnt get anything done at home if i didnt do it that way.

ok here is number 2, yellow kauri. i have it sanded down to 600 grit, the higher ones are in the mail along with the material for kopa #3 :) . they say this wood really comes to life when you get up to 1000-1200 grit so we will see. no pics of the how to as that would be redundant. the one side has a shine to it because i oiled the lockbar and it went onto the scales. it does have some cool grains when you look closely at it. i made a vid but it is taking forever to upload to photobucket. i'll add it when it finally does.

edit: ok here is the video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM2Vw4CNkgA

i won this a few days ago, it looked like a diverse bunch of wood that would be fun to put on the kopas

That Kauri looks fantastic! I'd definitely order one if they were available. You've got a couple of pieces of interesting wood there. The zebrawood looks like it could produce some interesting results. There are a couple of pieces down the bottom of your first pic that also look like they'd make nice scales (walnut burr?).

Great job!

Tony,
Great job, it looks even better than first. You got nice pile of wood. Are you planning to change scales only on Kopas or some other projects on your mind?

Great work Tony! The Kauri appears to have some nice "curly" figure and chatoyance. Am betting the finer grit sanding will bring those out even more.

ok a little info on this knife. it used to be a red bone kiwi, Paul gave me some stabilized Koa and i went to work. i sanded all the way to 2000 but it seemed to get a weird glassy looking film on it. Paul didnt want it polished but i tried a piece of the left over Koa and it shined up really nice so i polished it and it looks beautiful IMO. i hope you guys like but most especially i hope Paul is happy with it.

The purpleheart was nice, but the kauri and black cherry are fantastic.

Great work, Tony.
