IWA show , Germany

Hello to you all. I was at the IWA Show in Nürnberg last weekend and would like to report on the latest I saw at the Spyderco booth there. Spyderco had two show cases full of knives but only one showed the new models and the proto types! Sal was there and I had the chance to speak with him extensivly. ATR - will be out in summer Sal says, I believe it will be after the summer. Spyderco has a reputation to delay release dates of new models! So when Sal gives a date, add two or three months! ATR will be available in two versions. One with titanium scales and the other one in full steel. Very nice and big folder! Impala hunting folders. a- with Gut hook and G-10, b- Plain with G-10 . Both bigger as the TRAKK'R and with some sort of Jester style blades.

FBC5 Temperance Fixed blade. Much bigger as I thought it would be. Hefty knife for many purposes. Comes also as a trainer.

Saw a proto type of a RED Salsa! Demand has been high, so it will be added as soon as production will catch up.

PRIDE - Slip joint folder aimed at markets where locking knives are being targeted by lawmakers. Small knife in Navigator fashion. The knife shows a small inlay with flag patterns.

Final version of TRAKK'R was shown. The knife is imminent. Wonderful knife with contoured (!) handles and the paw tracks on the grip. Some sort of green in color and with the compression lock. This is the baby of Jeff B. Spyderco's General Manager.

25th Anniversary knife! Delica but with many changes. This knife will be limited to 500 pcs. and it will be a CUSTOM knife. Blade in VG-10, blue dyed jigged bone handles with mosaic damascus bolsters. The damascus is custom made by Mr. Ed Schimpp and shows the Spyder bug!!! This knife is bound to sky-rocket from day one, so get your order in NOW!!. The fit and finish will be as high as the first Jess Horn collaboration knife with the jigged bone handles. Talking about the bug - the bug will stay and as Sal tells me the plans for a new design Spyder have been cancelled.

Proto type - S.P.O.T. (Self Protection Option Tool) looks like a small neckknife with the Fred Perrin index finger hole incorporated in the handle. Skeleton fashion and with a kydex sheath. Two styles, one all steel the other with G-10. Spyderco Inhouse design (SalDesign).

Ronin Fixed blade. A Mike Janich design aimed at the MBC market . Small remarkable knife with a G-10 or Micarta handle with holes like in the ATR. Comes with a Kydex neck sheath. No release dates set yet.

I saw two very interesting new proto types that Sal did not wanted photographed and which I was not allowed to tell much about. This was OK with him. First these two models are far from ready yet. The final design (if ever) can go in any direction. There was a smaller and a bigger knife in two totally different styles. The smallest looks like a double S blade and has G-10 scales and a new and revolutionary locking system never seen before. The second knife is intended for maritime uses and is much bigger in size. Incorporates a Marlin Spike and a serrated blade in a titanium handle. It has the same new and innovative locking system that I'm not allowed to discribe to you yet.

I'm sure that Sal will show more of these knives as they develop further into what he thinks would be right for their believed purposes. Both knives are Inhouse design (SalDesign). So far the Spyderco News.

Many of you might know that Spyderco is also the US agent for G.SAKAI knives. From G.Sakai I saw three new models with anodized titanium handles and inlays of burl and pearl. These knives cayyy AUS 8 steeland looked very nice. They incorporate a liner locking system (Clutch Lock) that prevents closure of the knife while in use. These knives are not very expensive and look like a million $ worth. Ask for them (GS02CL, GS03CL, GS04CL) at the SFO as I believe that they are available right now.

So far my report and I wish you all a great weekend.

Hi Jur. Thanx for the report, and the drive down to Nurnberg.

On the new designs:

The smallest looks like a double S blade and has G-10 scales and a new and revolutionary locking system never seen before. The second knife is intended for maritime uses and is much bigger in size. I'm sure that Sal will show more of these knives as they develop further into what he thinks would be right for their believed purposes. Both knives are Inhouse design (SalDesign).

The lock was mine, but the designs are actually Eric's.

Oops..... made a mistake here with the double S blade. I ment to refer to the Reverse S blade shape as started with the C29 Cricket and continued with the C64 MeerKat (altough I believe that these are not yet relaesed with the Reverse S blades). Sorry for the confiusion.
