Caly3 / Caly3 ZDP-189 To Be Discontinued?

#1

Post by JNewell »

I've seen a couple of websites recently where one or othe other of the Caly3 knives is stated to be "discontinued" or "limited availability."

Is this idle chat or is are these really on the endangered list?

The CF Caly has always been referred to as "limited availability", the SE Caly has appeared on a few sites at discounted prices which makes me wonder.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

As you noted, the CF Caly 3 has always been a Limited Production model. IIRC, the G-10 SE version was dropped and closed out a few months back. It doesn't even show up in the online catalog anymore.

We won't know for sure until November which models and variants will still be around next year, but I'd bet both of the PE Caly 3's will survive the cut.

I have CF Caly3, G10 Caly3 (+backup), my son has Caly3. Still, if Spyderco will discontinue Caly3 I would consider this event like my personal tragedy. :( :( :( :(

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

Let's change the subject ... this will be a sad day for the Caly 3 G-10 fans :(

Me too! I can't imagine buying another. It is one of those models - like the Fallkniven TK1, Tk4, U2, and the MooreMaker large stockman - as well as things like the Delica and DKPK which I had the sense to buy backups of against this very possibility

But, I also think the cutlery world would feel dreadfully impoverished by its absence

True, but it would be great if the Caly 3 evolved to have a deeper choil like the UKPK. :D

I can't imagine the Caly 3 PE being discontinued. That seems to be the gateway model for folks who want to step up from the Delica and Endura, and from there they become like the rest of us on the Forum. :)

However, the SE blades seem to be to slow sellers, so I imagine that's why the Caly 3 SE is showing up heavily discounted, which made me happy because I love SE blades! :D

Ira

Ran out and bought a G10/VG10 Caly3 yesterday - my knife - odes should be penned in its praise :) :)

I'll try to score another soon - then I think I better lay down for a bit.

I was thinking these two might be drying up soon, so I snagged 'em last month.
Missed the blow out price, but worth every penny regardless!

Rock Salt ?

Might want to add the Rock Salt to the extinction list.
Might be doomed as well.
Just ordered one from the Cutlery Shoppe at a silly low blow out price.
