I'm a bit puzzled, as there is no ZDP Sage.

But, to answer the question. Of the current two versions, I think the CF/Walker Lock is the more attractive. The Ti/RIL version is very well done but to me framelocks, whether Reeve or Compression, always look incomplete.

The one I look forward most to seeing is the Mar/McBurnette midlock version. If they ever do one, the AG Russell "One Hand Knife" lock would also be of high interest to me.

I agree i like the first one better it is classy and stylish,

This is not bashing the second one but i dont like metal handels or framelocks.

I like the sage size, shape and over all caly 3 feel the sage line has.

When i had to make a desision between the new lum and the new sage i choose the lum. But i cant wait to see what sage will be next, Hopefully Black or grey FRN.

Tougher choice there. If the CF/ZDP Caly 3 had a solid ZDP-189 blade and either the twill CF of the Sage and Terzuola, or the peel-ply CF of the Stretch II and Superhawk, it would be a world class knife and beat its G-10/VG-10 counterpart by a mile. As is, while the only two I own are both CF, I'd be hard pressed to think of any reason to recommend someone spend the extra money for one. Frankly, I'd recommend the CF Sage to anyone right handed and recommend shopping price on a CF Stretch II or getting the FRN version of it to anyone left handed, over either version of the Caly 3. If they insisted on a Caly 3, I tell them to go with the G-10.

I know this may be a silly question...
But when I was considering getting a CF Caly 3 the laminated blade threw me off. I wasn't totally sure what that was and the Sage was considerably cheaper and just as good looking to me so I got the Sage. I still really like the Caly 3 but would like to be educated on the cf's laminated blade... What are the pros and cons of it?

Thanks in advance!

Nope, not silly at all.

In theory, since ZDP-189 tends to be a bit brittle, lamination strengthens the blade by sandwiching it between two layers of softer, more fleixible, steel. In practice, unless you like the "hamon" effect the lamination creates, all it really does is make the sides of blade less scratch resistant. The other advantage, and probably one reason it's been used, is availability. Both types, laminated and solid, are in short supply, so by having some models which use one, and some which use the other, you're less likely to run short. From what I understand, cost is pretty much of a wash. While the outer 420J2 steel is substantially less expensive, the laminate is more labor intensive to make.

I love that effect. It reminds me of samurai swords (I'm a huge samurai fanatic!).

As far as the Sages go, I don't own either. But when I do get one, it'll be the CF version. I'm just not a fan of metal handles. I think the metal is too slick, tends to be heavier, and since it gets scratches fairly easy (I know they can be buffed out), tend to look less nice IMO. But that's just my personal preference. If I could get the Ti RIL with the CF scale on the front handle, I'd probably go for that.

Ahh that makes sense! Thank you very much for clearing that up for me! :)

They are both great blades, 100% Keepers.
But I give the slight edge to the Caly 3.
For some reason it fits my gigantic paw like few others.
Very secure.
These are my "dress" knifes. As about as small as I go.
So I do not plan on using these for "heavy use".
And I have no problem with quality "lock back's".
Spyderco's most common lock you know.
CBL is my new favorite from this great Co.
But will continue to trust about any lock they produce. ;)

I like both the Sage models alot ;)

I took the front scale off of both knives & swapped them, so now I have a Chris Reeve framelock Sage with a CF front scale & a Michael Walker linerlock with a Ti front scale :)

A real plus on the Frame lock.

Now, to do this on the (M4) Ti Military "cough cough".

What a great idea! :D

Great shots George! Good work.

Normaly it would be easy, I love carbon fiber+light, strong, plus the special texture, easy. I usualy don't like very many all metal knives.
However, the SageII is so comfy in the hand I have a hard time puting it down.

Ok, I choose the Ti, because it's a tad more robust.

Of the Caly's, they're all great, but I like the Micarta Caly Jr best.

I like the CF Sage better than the Caly's because it seems to be the smallest possible knife that I can get a four fingered secure grip on behind the choil. So I may end up getting rid of my Caly's if the Sage continues to be my smallest preferred EDC. I will probably get every model Sage that comes out. I don't have the Ti Sage yet but expect to like it almost as well as the CF Sage.
