Thanks a lot fellows, you´re very helpful and kind. I´ve been collecting knives for many years but specially spydercos for the last 11 years and I´m trying to find some information for some of them. By the way, I received today my Bob Lum chinese folder and a Sage.
The Lum knife with the ZDP steel is the sharpest pocket knife I´ve ever seen from any factory, I shave with straight razors and this knife is close if not equal to my razor´s edge!!!

Here is another interesting read. Apparently Camillus made a 440A version at lower cost . Arround 2002 spyderco had enought facility to bring it in at cpm 440V ? At that time top notch steel.

Might be Sal/ Ted our the Deacon our Ouchthatsharp can enlighten us some more.

There is an excellent entry for the C41 Native in Spydiewiki which shows all the versions and the dates the various steels were used.

I forgot about the spydiewiki updates. Thanks for the link paul.

Apparantly C41BK native was produced in cmp 440 V from 2000 to 2003 .

The boy dent was introduced in the last batches. ( I know you past up on them paul.. :p )

So No boy dents before 2003???

Interesting stuff.

I think it might have been even earlier than 2000. Because I have some earlier Spyderco catalogs that list 440V, Golden CO USA made Spyders as early as 1998.

But then again I have a 2003 catalog which listed many of the S30V Spyders and it was way later before any of them were available.

One prime example of that was the 204 Sharpmaker. It was 8 months from the time they advertised it in major knife magazines before I was able to get my hands on one.

JD, could you direct me to those catalogs? I have these:
  • 1998? (All God's Critters) dealer catalog, which shows 440A
  • Aquarium mini-catalog, which shows GIN-1
  • Malachite? mini-catalog, which shows it in GIN-1
  • 2000 dealer and consumer catalogs, which show 440V and are the earliest ones I've seen which do.

JD, that may be the case, but the catalogs prior to 2000 also show the Native in GIN-1 (the two mini-catalogs) or 440A (the "All God's Critters" dealer catalog).
