Gunting authenticity Q
Gunting authenticity Q
Hi there, long time!
Is there anybody who can tell if this knife is a genuine Spyderco Gunting? To my eyes it looks very suspicious. The grinds on my own Gunting don't look this way and the clip is simply wrong.

I saw a fake Gunting at a Gun & Knife Show this last weekend. Had a normal pocket clip, liner lock instead of compression lock, and the pivot was smaller and colored black.

Fake
There are several issues with this knife, but Mike was correct in that the most glaring is the liner lock. All the Guntings had compression locks. I have an original 440V plain edge, and the photo you posted is not an original 440V plain edge Gunting.

Can't read the text in your link but I see the pictures: Lock is wrong, clip is wrong, screws are wrong, blade is wrong, handle is wrong ... the whole knife isn't a Spyderco Gunting.
Compare it with the picture and description from Spyderco - http://spyderco.com/catalog/details.php?product=25 (original Gunting was offered with blade steels CMP 440V and CPM S30V)

Deffinately a fake. The Gunting has the "Spoon" clip. Large, wing-shaped and has a divot in the middle. The Gunting also has the "Puzzle" lock. Looks like a Liner-lock but upside-down.
Keep in mind that Bram Frank is now making the "Lapu Lapu Corto" which share many of the distinguishing features of the Gunting.
The Lapu Lapu Corto (LLC) is available in the regular size, and the larger "Magnum" Size.

EDIT:
I am unsure how the "Puzzle" Lock actually functions. Could someone more knowlagable be willing to fill me in?
Is it more similar to a Compression lock's function, or a liner locks function?
Does the locking bar contact the horizontal or vertical section of the Tang? or both?
Thank you for all your help
