Well it has been beckoning me from the back of the maintenance shop and in my down time today I thought I would bust out of the office and do some blasting. I had my trusty "beater" D4 in my desk so I disassembled and went to work.

I blasted the clip, blade, lockbar, and slabs. Shown here with my another D4, I bet ya cant tell the difference...

I dont know, only time will tell. I dont know of any coating on the blades that I could have knocked off but I am usually pretty careful about cleaning the blades so we will see.

Nice to see another sandblasted Delica.

I bought one from an eBay seller that made one only and I was very happy with it. I carry it a lot and like the matte finish of the blade. The FRN handles look the same as yours. He put a notch on the blade below the Spydiehole, reground the blade to look like the Delica 3, blasted the clip and made the Boye dent more prominent. Too bad you lose the bug on the blade.

Hope you are delighted with yours. I surely am with mine.

I like that notch on the blade. I was sharpening a Spin the other day and wished more knives had that.

Wow those really look great, did you take it apart after you were done to clear out the blasting media, or was that not really a problem?

From my experience with VG-10, there's no need to worry about corrosion :)

I took it apart before I started blasting it, than I blew off all the pieces before reassembly

I've had a VG-10 Sog Vision or something like that. The one I had, had that sandblasted finish. It rusted quicker than any D2 knife I've had....

What is the advantage of the notch on the blade? I noticed the notch on my spin also but I wasn't sure what it is for?

Not if you cut a lot of rope. It snags all the time, but it looks good though.

Notch is usefull when duing whet whorks, lets say peeling an apple. The juice will drop from the notch without jamming in the handle. (Hope make myself undertood).

It probably has some other intended purpose, but without the notch it seems most knives have a really different angle to the edge on the last little bit. The first time I sharpen I like to flatten and even out the whole edge. That last little part is always the hardest if there is no notch.

Try cutting the rope with the sharp part instead of the notch. J/K.

I think it looks great, and with proper upkeep I don't see a rust problem.
