Compression Lock Military??

#1

Post by Dexter Ewing »

Hi Sal - will there come a day in which we'll see the Compression Lock on the C36? I know that doing this will require some re-engineering of the C36 design to fit the mechanics of the CL, but IMO that knife would be a great candidate for the new lock. What are the chances of this happening? Come on fellow Military fans, stand up and be counted!

Hi Dex. Ultimately, probably. We don't want to convert too many models too quickly until we work out all of the potential glitches. The Mil Jr will probably get it first.

Thanks Sal. When can we expect the Military Jr? I think "Cadet" is a more appropriate moniker for that one ;)

Dex, I believe the name "Cadet" belongs to Buck.

Darn, that's right. Maybe another contest for the forum to name the knife with the prize being that knife? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle>

I'd say to call it the "Recruit," but I don't think I'd be original.

How about "Reserve."

That's, among other things, either part-time military, or a quality of self-restraint, like "Temperence."

The problem with names is prior use. There are only so many words. We tried to compile a "name list" that all of the factories could tap into, but I couldn't seem to make it work.

I was after a list that showed each name and the company that had used it, registered it or both. It would make the naming of a knife easier if all of the factories would cooperate, but I'm finding that this is in itself difficult.

Maybe AKTI could create and monitor such a thing? And one of the forumites will volunteer to build and maintain the list with Jan Billeb (exec dir or AKTI)?

*Historical Bump*
I definitely prefer "Para 2" to the Cadet or millie jr. Still wouldn't mind a compression lock millie 2 :D Sounds like they are going to go with the stop lock instead though, which I am also interested in.

The liner lock isn't my favorite lock but I do like it on the Military. I don't know if it would be a better knife with a compression lock but I would certainly be interested in finding out.

I was so confused when I was reading Sal's response and he said something about a "Mil Jr."
My mind said "wait, isn't that just a Para Military?", and then I saw the date. :p

How about Lieutenant or Leftenant (archaic spelling)?

Or, it could be the Commander or even Commodore.

Give it a good WORKING name..."cadet" or "lieutenant" imply that the knife is geared towards officers....

You've certainly delivered on this request and then some Sal. The PM2 is a great design, as is the Para 3. Or should I call it the lil' lil' Military? :D

Hi Cobra,

Actually the Para 2, as well as the Para 3 were Eric's designs.

I always thought it was a collaboration between you too. I have so much to learn.

Thanks Sal!

Eric gave me an "honorable mention" because I designed the first one.

You nailed that one. If Spyderco made only the Military you guys would still be among the top knife companies as far as I am concerned.

Please get some more high end steel choices in production models so those of us living outside America can have a chance to buy them... I paid 350 bucks to get the cts-204p model by the time customs and DHL were done pissing down my back. If there were regular production models and places like Lamnia got some I would have a fair chance. As it is the sprints go before we ever know about them
