It's a cute knife, but does it mean we are about to see Byrd-like Spydercos?

Only Spyderco can comment on this. Spyderco Tenacious is made in People's Republic of China as well. Probably it is unconvertible manufacturing trend. It looks like in future more and more knives and everything else will be made in China and Taiwan, instead of US, EU or Japan.

I would guess that depends a lot more on how the Tenacious is selling than on the "Bug", which may be more of an advertising trinket than a serious model. Given the state of the economy, I would not be surprised to see more interest in low cost models and, as bh49 pointed out, China and Taiwan are the most logical suppliers for those.

On the other hand, it does pay to keep things in perspective. Spyderco is now making more models in Golden than they ever have and apparently have a few more in the pipeline. Increasing production capacity there, in the current climate, might be more of a risk than they are willing to take. I for one would certainly not fault them if that's the case.

I believe that Spyderco is quietly increasing their domestic production capacity. For that matter, with Wal Mart dropping almost all knives (I went by the knife display at ours a couple of days ago and almost everything was marked out) the Native won't be soaking up nearly as much of the capacity as it has the last few years. But for what is essentially an advertising trinket, you have to keep the cost down if you want to stay in business. I don't know of any company that puts their ad on Montblanc fountain pens to give away.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Is it confirmed 100% by now that it is chinese made in the first place?

Seems ot be an obvious choice, though....

We could be happy if it is the byrd steel :)

after all, this is not much more than an advertising gift...

how much did you pay?

If possible, would you be so kind to take a pic from one of them next to a Ladybug?

True - and as I said... It is a cute knife (which is why I got three). I'm not good at taking pictures of knives, but since you asked... Here are some comparison pics with different Spydies

I'd agree with some of the above,

I would think of the "Bug" knife more as "Shwag" or a Promo or Trinket item more than a Actual knife model.

Like the Spyderco bumper Sticker, or the Dodo/ATR/ect Lapel pins
I'd think of it more like a neat little Key fob or something.

Just my opinion. So, I could be wrong (pay no attention to the above)

I don't see the big deal, so it's made in China? If made here it would probably have a $40-$50 MRSP, how many of you would buy a trinket for that price? It's a real knife, but at that size how useful is it anyway?
