Native Chief ?

#1

Post by kwakster »

Is there any chance Spyderco is going to bring this model back to life with a new steel ?
It looks like a very functional model, and i think it's called the Native Chief,

Hi Kwakster.

We only made one prototype. The model never went into production.

Maybe after we get the Native4 in productiion, we'll consider the Chief for production.

What a cool looking knife. I have never seen one before. Kind of a Jess Horn meets Native. Nice!

I'll go ahead and ad to the list of Oh yea I want this knife.
To be honest I seem to have a theme of only liking the really long or really small knives. I either prefer something big to get through a tough job, or something small I can toss in my pocket and forget about. I liked the native but the length always kept me from buying this knife. A large model with 3-3.5" blade would be awesome. Especially with the G10 handle I have come to love Spydercos with G10 handles

Im actually supprised to see a photo of that!!! Its on display at the SFO if I remember correctly, but I did know only one was made.

I agree it looks like a great knife, but I think I would rather see something completely new.

I can't tell from the photo how big it is, but whatever it is, it's not big enough.

What about the Bison?

At present I must be happy with the puny dimensions of the Police 3.

It does look nice, but I don't know if I'd be too excited. I really am in love with full flat ground blades and if you do that, how much different would it be than a Military?

It certainly does look nice, but I'm not sure it really has a place in the current line-up.

It'd have a back lock, a spear shaped blade and no hump.

The Native IV is fantastic in FFG, and it's clearly still a Native.

I'm an admirer of Spyderco's designs. Using them is like immersing yourself in music or studying a painting in a museum. I buy some "fine" art but my preference is for usable art.

I am also a fanatic about Flat grind blades. And I prefer full height flat grind or at least close to full height flat grind. - I like the swedge on the back of the new CF Native 4 - So, I would love to see the swedge.

I also like the jimping like on the new Native 4.

I would be interested for sure if it has a flat grind like a longer versin of the new CF Native 4!
